...In some schools these extra classes nowadays are compulsory and must be paid for whether you attend or not......
clearly this is Illegal and if not ought to be. its a pity parents dont know their rights.
It may not be a statement of fact but it came to my knowledge that in some schools the Grade 9s are compelled to enrolled compulsory to do the extra classes to cover the syllabus and enable them to perform well in the exams as they generally compete with other schools on general assessments and pass rates. The teachers doing the hard work are supported on this scheme as motivation. However Njuck, whatever you are right to state it is illegal in its approach if known to exist. Thanks for pointing it out. |

jambo personally i think you should of gone to the mother first, to discuss the suggestion of extra classes, this situation would not have arose then. As the mother would have voiced her preference for the home tutor before you had parted with any monies, you could of then paid for the home tutor and not been out of pocket. I would not argue over D250. You should pay the tuition this time but learn that you need to discuss and agree things with the childs parents before taking any action in the future.
Babygirl I agree with you on this advice and hope Jambo accepts it in good faith. It appears there was communication breakdown somewhere between them. |

Most of the individuals that help are just normal everyday people who have no ulterior motive. Just ur normal working class people who go to work everyday to be able to afford one holiday a year.
lets remember that alot of these people are first time visitors and maybe only in the country for a week.
Their waiter or barman asks them to visit their compound where there is a child who needs some support to get them through school, the holidaymakers are asked to provide this help. Or the teachers of the schools they visit ask them to help a certain child.
I have known many people who have not been able to refuse to help these individuals.
Noone ever suggested that they could do more by going to the Ministry of Education or a professional body. Maybe if this suggestion was introduced by the hotel workers or the reps then you wouldnt get so many individual sponsors.

Madiba we are having some positive returns on tourism and I don't think its about tourism but about modern world and liberalism expanding everywhere. These moral judgements should be assessed on individual basis and should be directly to certain section of the society privately and not tourism as a product contributing good returns on the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of our economy and at all levels of our society. |

Babygirl you are right. thats true.what Jambo & Co are doing i'm sure is replicated by many gambians helping family/friends paying school fees at an individual level, perhaps gambians are less open about it. Even the Bantaba has a GESO. All help should be encouraged. but
in the final anaylsis WE Africans have to get our act together and provide FREE universal compulsory Education and Basic HealthCare.
this is the most sustainable option. |

Kobo,
Despite the positive returns of tourism its an established fact that tourism comes with a cost, MORAL BANKCRUPTCY AND CULTURAL DECADENCE. The victims of homosexualism and lesbiansm are lured into and exposed to it by the tourists and their money. Lets face it. The people at the tourism aunthority (GTA)should deal with the menace as they are dealing with the bumster menace. |

In politics its dangerous to make moral judgements we have religion and religious leaders who have roles to play in our society. We do listen to their sermons and preachings on moral decadence and other vices. |

Hi Madiba
I think you've made a valid point Madibaand the GTA needs to deal with this situation because it's necessary for the preservation of Gambian culture as we know it.

Homoseksuality is not imported to Africa by tourist, it has always been there, becource the black King Mwanga of Buganda (Uganda), 1884-1897 was gay. And I dont think there was so many tourist in Africa on this time.

The religious leaders have their roles but we the individuals have ours. That doesnt mean that we have to go to the Imam's MIMBARR, or the Priest PULPIT but give our opinions in fora like this one. Its my personal opinion and it doesn't represent the views of a group or organization. The fact still remains that Homsexuality, Lesbiansm are ALIEN TO US.
