http://observer.gm/africa/gambia/article/national-award-recipients-approved

What is the purpose of these watered-down awards? Why not confer it on all Gambians. It looks like that many-I have never seen in my lifetime. I can certainly take mine to the bank and get cash for it ...

they missed lamin joof, head waiter at ali baba's, the stray cat at balmoral, the chef at the late night afra place, the bakoteh dumpsite and the big tree.

Certainly, if the military wives can get it, Lamin Joof (of Ali Baba's), and as a 'constitutional right' all the stray cats and dogs should get it. There is just so much to go around...

Apparently nothing extra-ordinary. Just attention seeking, to wrap up support, and of course 2011. The big election is coming...

Kay.I think that perhaps you have overlooked one little thing , that is that people who have "small jobs" tend to feel that they are overlooked by the administration,I am certain that those with small jobs will feel very proud indeed that they have been recognised,OK they will probably vote for the administration who gave them the award, but Hey that's politics, and you know my thoughts on that subject.

Yes absolutely! I think they called it in the Gambia "politics of patronage". The awardees (and their families) will often feel obligated to HIM. Of course except Barry Wells

Pls show some respect. Atleast to the dead ones amongst them.

How can you equate stray animals to diginified gambians and non-gambians old enough to be ur dads or mums?

oh god, here we go, someone with a sense of humour failure again. this bantaba is like treading on eggshells these days. can't anyone make any jokes anbout anything in this godforsaken world without some righteous individual with a sense of humour bypass getting indignant and downright silly about it?
madiss, get a life.
it's no wonder so many people no longer bother here.

Lurker that was the worst form of humour. Dry and misplaced humour. No one here ridicules the british culture or the monarchy. Do you award OBEs and MBEs to dogs and cats in the UK?
And you know it. Stop the disrespect!

Sir, I did not equate any dignified Gambian to stray dogs...
My statement or argument is a criticism of the logic of awarding such a highly prestigious national award usually reserved for well deserving people to the "Military Wives' Association" and to "Telephone Operators". I even mentioned myself as one who deserve it too...
Did you get it???

You didnt equate our dignified to animals. the lowly Lurker did. Tell me someone like essa sarr who had served Gamtel honestly and diligently for close to 20yrs doesnt he deserve recognition? the military wives association , i definitely dont know how the board or people responsible for the shortlisting came to that decision. Looking at the list in all honesty i have seen names of poeple who had selflessly served gambians and humanity for decades. since you have worked at agric before. does the name John Faye ring a bell?

if one has to explain a joke then the joke is worthless. you are in your own world pal, and you are the kind of rigid, inflexible anachronism that makes debate here pointless. i thought that battles with Turk may be feisty but at least they have merit.
talking to you who does not get it, is pointless.
toubab, this is not cultural difference in humour.dont tread on eggshells!!
this is somebody whose head the humour flew over . his riposte to me confirms his own ignorance . he just does not get it.
that is a human failing, not a cultural one. as for lowly, my ignorant, humourless friend, you need to lighten up quickly because you have made a big ass of yourself on this one.ask your buddies to explain. i can no longer be bothered with troglodytes like you.
bye all.
i have had enough.

As long as am alive and on the bantaba i will not sit and watch a worthless pig insult my people. None will miss you, disguised, patronising racist.

Look elsewhere for your usual rubbish!
