Folks,

It looks like all is not well again. Forceful labor equals slavery, Period!

With the current age, no one, even the most lunatic person in this world should try to force people to do labor. This is wrong, and a total violation of peoples' rights.

There is another way of looking at it ,if you are a civil servant ,for instance, instead of a day at the comfortable office (and a 20% wages increase ) then you might like to go and join the people on the farm in the real world for a few days and do some work just like the nearby villigers, some of who told the newspaper "They said even colonialism is better than this type of rule." (Surley Not !)

2bab,

Thanks for chipping in. I hear you on the so-called 20% salary increment joke...

I must tell you I am truly pissed about this one. I hate forceful labor.

This is truly not "Tesito", word for "waist-belt" -meaning "self-help" project in English.

I think the national and international community should make noise on this and have jammeh stop the nonsense. Dictators don't know please, and they will never willingly give you your rights. The only language they understand is exposing their criminal activities, within and beyond, so they are stripped naked.

I agree forced labour is abhorant,Gambia is no exception this link will give you more information:

http://www.hrea.org/index.php?base_id=160#top

If (I am not an Att. ) Kay reads this link

http://www1.umn.edu/humanrts/instree/z1afchar.htm

perhaps he would know if The Gambia signed up to this,if they did MAYBE ECOWAS would like to take up your suggestion. They havn't been much use in the past though.

2bab,

If for anything, you reminded me that we are dealing with a lawless Jammeh, but I enjoyed reading portions of the document, & thanks.

& happy rest of the week.
