lemon time you are right about that. They maybe poor but they are not stupid. I have land but the problems are just beginning, i asked about the price of cement to build a boundary, £200.00. I said i would build a wooden fence just to put something there that was visual. i hate to tell yu the price. there are weeds on the land it should be burnt, 500 dls for the day, i thought that was okay, but was told it is too much. getting the right information is a headache |

its a headache alright. partly because we have stupid gambians playing each other trying to be smart. so one would tell you its too much he knows someone who can do it. in the end it will cost you more as the quality will not be the same. |

I have changed my mind for now. I dont have enough money that I can risk it being conned out of me. I think I would only build a house if I was in Gambia to supervise the work and the buying and storing of supplies. Otherwise I feel I will be paying a tourist price for everything. If you try to do things from the uk it is difficult to get straight answers and I ended up not trusting anyone!!! I got as far as putting a deposit on some land, but decided to cut my losses and not procede due to arguments between Gambians about the project before it even started. |

Land is expensive have you checked out some of the web sites that sell land in Gambia. I agree that i would only buy land if i met the villagers, for me to go with one "of the estate agents" and let him handle the situation is fraught with headache. Also be stubborn and stick to your word. Some of the situations have been caused by listening to someone who does not have any rights to be selling the land or property.
I look back at the times i wanted to buy the land and had the deposit only to be left hanging because they did not have the rights or wanted money for fees. ie visiting fees, remember it used to be 300 dls to go and view the land. I will finalise my buying property after the election at present there is a land rush in Gambia, look back at the postings people did not believe the prices i was being asked but I stand by what i say.
Also there is something fishy going on regarding so called social housing land, even the locals cannot by it. I suspect some in house negotiations are happening between ministerial departments

It will cost more money to buy one that is already built .. you are better off buying land and building your own or having one built for you ...... standard charter bank takes 3/5 days to receive your money when its sent from UK ..... b careful who and were you buy your land or your already built house... as it is very very easy to run in to problems ... .......tizz nice 2 b nice init......
