Ebou4th, I don't think Jammeh will allow any unified opposition to emanate in the Gambia. When NADD was first formed and Jammeh saw some strength in the opposition, he quickly arrested the leaders and comfined them in mile II prison.The former Nigerian president had to intervene to secure their release. What could have happened if the case had to be dicided by the Court system, which is totally controlled by Jammeh? They would undoubted serve long sentences for no justifibale reasons.
The opposition can only make an impact if the playing field is leveled for all the player to have equal chance. Jammeh utilises the entire state apparatus--national media, police, military, vehicles, and any other state resource--to get himslef forcefully elected. He controls the the electoral body, member of which are appointed and fired by him without any kind of oversight.
Democracy is only a solution when elections are free and fairly, but where the system is one side, other alternatives becomes feasible. The longer we wait, the more people would be sacrificed by Jammeh and his thugs who are bent on distroying the Gambia.
Jammeh's government has foresaken the very constitution that establish his office. He refuse to obey the verdict of the courts in the case of Manneh, Kanyiba, Rambo and others. His blatant violation of the constitution and other laws of the Gambia are gounds for his impeachment, which can only be effected through force. |

| Yes I do remember the slogan 'Jammeh by force'.The Youth Action Group was highly supportive of this and they exploited all avenues of king making and espoused,the idea of one party rule,which they probably would force on us any way.I could see why the decrees were and still are in place to allow for detentions at the pleasure or convenience of Jammeh or the Minister of Interior, which implement can be used to neutralize the opposition.I however would not go so far as suggest ouster by all means,because that could tantamount to incitement.The decrees were used to get persons detained incommunicado,ugly tools indeed, a way to hold on to power by all means too. |

You heard me right Ebou4th! We as Gambians, have always been reluctant to engage and therefore allowed this problem to manifest and become an even greater issue. With all do respect, What has your experience achieved in Gambia? Staying silent and mute has not achieved anything thus far. Dialogue has done nothing! It's time to change strategy. Had we had the balls to stand up in 1994, we would not be in the predicament that we are in today. Even if there's change today, our youths (from the last 14 years) who only know this form of administration will have to be shown a different light. We will have to change the mindset of the youths. This is the only form of leadership that they know. In my opinion this is very dangerous.
I’ll be the first to tell you that the first administration was not the greatest but they did not trample on the people’s basic rights. Has this second administration done more development? Yes! But this administration has done more harm than good. Weigh the pros and cons and to me personally, the cons far outweigh the pros, so it’s time for change. Unfortunately we may have to sacrifice a bit to save the majority. Do you get my drift? History repeats itself time and time again. If you are able/willing to review world history, you will see that every great nation who have been in our situation; has had to sacrifice something for their beliefs and freedom.
