Bodwick, loved your posting! Seemed to me as if you were running out of patience. Glad you came up with the 99%, though. It is not all bad news in that department, i can tell you.
Have fun slumming it in Ngala, poor you !

Bodwick,
The rude and aggressive are the gangs in the UK. A serious threat for the future.
Sure you dnt know most of the personalities here. I dnt care for a moment if any self-assuming toubab thinks i am rude and aggressive.
I have always and will until i breath my last, to be myself and be totally free. If you mistake me for bumsters , enjoy urslef. Let me tell you for your information, i have never wanted a white woman for sex or otherwise. I am happily married to a Gambian, African born and bred. I have never had a white girlfriend and am not thinking of one anyway. I am in the UK on buisnes and purely business and on private funds that has nothing to do with any toubab or tax-payers monies. Infact am a proud contributor to the british economy. I dnt collect any benefits.
So those boys and girls who run after you in the Gambia asking for God knows what can listen to your tone of patronage not me MADIBA baldeh bolong.
As HIZ mentioned all these past weeks alot of negative'press' is given to The Gambia as it is hell. If its that hell ,DNT even go near it. Keep ur hard-earned cash and go enjoy somewhere else. |

No one likes criticism. But sometimes one has to face reality. Gambia is a beautiful country and in the main nice people. But one has to admit in many aspects things have and are going down hill and yes if you are not happy go else where.
Me like many toubabs would spend the winter there, anything from 3 to 6 months but we are now going elsewhere. I would not stay in a tourist hotel where all the money goes out of the country back to the tour operator but stay in a gambian owned hotel or compound spending anything from 6 to £10000 in the local community during my stay.
So yes if you are not happy go elsewhere. I, now like other long termers are doing just that, for me Asia. One its now cheaper than than flying to Gambia and not as costly when there |

Those of you who have visited and have experience with the Gambia before, we want you you to go back over and over and experience more and more the true "Smiling Coast". We appreciate your love and care for the Gambia and her people, even though sometimes the Gambia (and some of her people) may not live up to your expectations. I hope that the appropriate authorities and some of the people who can make direct improvements in the Gambia are hearing your concerns. Voicing your concerns alone should make a huge difference, and we thank Bantaba for providing that forum;but our interactions on bantaba should not become the filter through which we perceive the Gambia in its entireity. So go back to Gambia, MeMe, Snuggels, Anna, Bev, Lurker, Turk, and all others whenever you can; and tell us what your experiences are, good or bad, because we care. I know for the fact that some of you have already done important work in the Gambia that many Gambians like myself have not been able to do. I am sure this efforts and goodwill towards the Gambia and her people will be remembered for posterity. We love you and we truly appreciate your business... Let's go and "slum it" in the Gambia year after year ... |

Kay, thanks for the kind request! Let's hope that your post will be the nice final thought to this thread
By the way, next visit to the Smiling Coast has already been booked for March next year and I'll be sure to let you know what's changed (if anything) in the two years since my last visit. |

I'm sorry, but although I am a Feminist I don't go in for all this sisterhood stuff! I take people as I find them and don't automatically presume that because someone is a women I am going to get along with them. We should be free to discuss and debate everything on here with everyone. Women sticking together is SO 1970's! |

I'm hoping I might get to Gambia in the Winter of 2009/10. It will be two years then since I've been. I will be really 'homesick' by then! |
