You are right Madiba

Saturday and Sunday are holidays for two reason.

Saturday is a holiday for Judaism and Sunday as you said was when the Lord rested after creating the earth. So each religion took a day. Rememeber Christianity has its roots in Judaism. Infact in earlier times, one has to covert to Judaism before you could be a Christian. Earlier teachings did not welcome the gentiles.

The Sabbath is in recognition of the favor of God to His people in Egypt when death was brought upon the oppressors during the night and when the Pharoahs son died in the process before letting the Isralites to go but only to attack them enroute which led to their drowning in the Red Sea. You will find this EXODUS in the Bible and Bob Marley sang a song about; "Exedous, movement of Jah People"

Friday being the Holiest day in Islam, is also a holiday in some muslim countries. Colonialism disgusise itself behind religion. This is indicated in the speech of one East African President when he said:

"When the whiteman came, they came with the Bible and asked us to pray with our eyes closed; when we opened our eyes, we had the Bible and they had the land"I believe it was Kenyatta.

Brothers, the reason why I am propagating Shariah here is I believe it is a forum for Gambians and gambian politics. Ideas don't appear in a vacuum and overnight. They must start somewhere and I belive this is a good place. I dont have to propagate it in Gambia alone, I want you to help me in doing that.

"For those salaried, Saturday and Sunday is a holiday." Who made it a holiday, was it not the british and didn't they know about muslims in the country when they came. They did, but just didn't care. No offense to the jews and christians in Gambia, but all I am asking for is that I feel Islam is being short changed and we let that continue.

And for your information, Shariah is not about cutting hands and stoning to death. Shariah encompases every facet of human dealings from inheritance, criminal law, business law, environmental law etc. If the first thing that comes to your mind is chopping the hands of theives when Shariah is mentioned, then may I submit to you that the laws of Allah trancend beyond what you may deem to constitute cruelty. Stealing and fornication is rife in Gambia because of the absence of a deterrence, a la Shariah. In other words, if we want to create a moral society we need to be serious about adequate laws.

Lastly, are you at all interested in eradicating the problem of stealing and fornication? If you are, then the current system doesn't seem to be a solution. That is why we need Shariah.

For too long we have sat on the sidelines and let corrupt politicians and tyrants lead us astray and towards hell fire while we sat on our couches or wander from the market place to naming ceremonies and the like. We thump our nose on the commandments of Allah and expect him to have mercy on us. Let us be all warned that Allah is swift in retribution.

May Allah guide us all.

"...Verily, in the remembrance of Allâh do hearts find rest..." Sura Al-Rad (Chapter 13, Verse 28)

big up secular kondo and dbaldeh. i aggree that the sharia is not fully implemented any where in the world .the countries that are using it ,choose to bring hardship on the poor and let the rich go with a tap in the back .
but also look at the same secular laws in the u.s .it is abundantly clear that judges hardly think properly before sentencing a black man to fifteen years without parrol .remember the case of amdou jallow and luema who where killed by newyork police what did the judge said ? a black man apprehended with drugs spend longer sentence than a white a guy .remember the los angelis riot ? there are thausands of cases of the legal system being bias beyong comprehension why? it is executed by men who have natural weakness. ofcourse sharia can be properly implemented in the gambia if muslims want to be muslims. if any one thinks he is not a true muslim then let him/her choose be prosecuted with my brother bory touray as his lawyer or let justice whoever preside .
the most important thing for muslims to understand is religion is not about conveneince but a reality that we all will face one day. first we need to be better human being .sharia did not come to punish but deter. so i hope brothers watch there language .how ever western you think you are remember Allah have more right over you than even your self. you can go to sleep and never wake-up .in Allah i put my trust.

Surah- Ar-Rum 30-22

Shariah cannot eradicate stealing and fornication. Thats why you have people with one hand walking the streets of some countries. Capital punishment does not change anything. Even a death penalty has not stopped murder. How many prophets have been sent to mankind and yet, the world only gets worst. Greed is part of the problem.

Rehabilitation and caring for each does help. We spend billions on prisons around the world but very little on education and some welfare for the poor. The money spent is enough to eradicate hunger in the world if only we could learn to share.

If we go back to the commandments of Allah he will bless us and remove hunger and famine. However if we sit idly and claim that we cant do shariah and start counting the number of people with one hand, Allah will punish all of us for condoning shirk. Yes, Shariah will not eradicate stealing and fornication but it will drastically reduce it. Look at the spread of AIDS for example and you will find that araes on the continent of Africa where illegal sexual relations are rampant have higher numbers of people infected with AIDS. Just start from the areas around the Northern part of Africa and start heading south (the further south you go the higher the prevalence of AIDS) and you will get a vivid picture of what we stand to gain if we put stringent measures on the perpetrators fonication and adultery.

If you stone the adulterers to death why will you need prisons? Common law or what have you has shown how inept it is to solving our problem, so we need to revert to the tried and tested system.

I think you have dangerous ideas. I am out of this discussion. Like Jesus said; " He that has not sinneth, cast the first stone"

In Islam its almost impossible to prove adultery. You have to find them in the act and penetration must be seen or if they themselves out of fear of the Lord and not through torture confess they did it.

Thank you Mansasulu. Like your name which means " Wolf King" in Mandinka, we dont need wolfs in sheep clothing. Gambia will ever remain secular.

I am out of this topic.
