I withhold my comments on Mbarodi's alleged activities in support of an APRC candidate in Nyamina. I hope more facts emerge about this allegation.
I do not however , think it is fair for Freedom newspaper to demand Halifa to explain why Mbarodi is not contesting the Nyamina seat but instead (allegedly) helping an APRC candidate.Only Mbarodi can and should explain his actions.Halifa cannot and should not speak for him.
Personally , I have no problem if Mbarodi or Halifa retires from politics to pursue something else. These are great Gambians who have tried for decades to bring about change in the Gambia with some sucess and some failures. I am so whatever they decide to pursue these individuals will continue to be usefull members of our Gambian society. The Gambian people must also realize that oppotunites do not present themselves forever. We cannot expect that people like Halifa , Waa , Darboe , and others are gonna be available forever. If we do not give them the mandate to contribute what they want to contribute , at some point we are going to lose them.
Perhaps change and development itself requires that new politicians emerge , but I am also worried that the possible sudden departure of our veteran politicians like Waa and Halifa could deal a big blow to the opposition. Will the departure of Waa and Halifa result in the demise of the opposition in the Gambia ? Or will it result in the strenghtening of UDP and its satellite parties? I don't know the answer.

The story that Waa is campaigning for an APRC candidate should be treated as rumor until proven by a reliable source on the ground.

On the other hand if anyone knows the history of Waa's political affiliation, one shouldn't be surprise that he may be campaigning for an APRC candidate. He is known to have exploited such opportunities before and has cross carpetted to the PPP not once or twice after going independent or NCP.

The lesson here is the fact that politics of personality has once again proven to be at the center stage of many of these old politicians. Many of our so called politicians are self centered and outright opportunist. Only the people who don't understand Gambian politics and its personalities are surprise from such a move. The writing are on the wall for all to read.

The politicians with principles will never be seen to cross carpet for selfish gains. They will rather give way to others than be seen to compromise their dignity and respect. They will go down in history as men and women of principle and discipline. They see political representation as a service and not a profession. In this noble group you can always count Halifa, Sam Sarr, etc. no matter how long the struggle takes. Look out for more cross carpeting as we have seen already. Its a shame...

Waa Juwara Is A Political Prostitute-UDP'S Ebrima Dibba Alleges!Dibba spill the beans...

Ebrima Dibba, a former Security officer attached to Gambia's firebrand politician Lamin Waa has accused his former political mentor and colleague Mbarodi of being a "political prostitute who is at this hour trying to sell himself to the Ruling Party." Dibba who is based in Washington Seattle, also a strong supporter of the opposition United Democratic Party (UDP) charged that"Lamin waa Juwara is a political prostitute who put self interest ahead of national interest. He has betrayed the struggle by openly campaigning for the APRC candidate Essa Saidykan with the sole intention of undermining the UDP led alliance. Our party militants saw him in Niamina Dankunku, where he toured house to house calling on residents to vote for Essa. Waa is not only a political prostitute but also a desperate failed politician. It's only the APRC that's going to entertain him and not any progressive party."

Dibba who contacted this paper to air his opposition to Waa's alleged move to support the APRC candidate accuses Juwara of being too cheap to mortgage his political career over night for nothing. "What the Freedom Newspaper reported is a fact and I'm here by confirming that he is supporting the APRC candidate. The UDP harbours no grudges against Waa, but he should stop his lies against the party. Juwara's last minute association with the APRC is not going to affect the UDP in anyway. I spoke to our candidate Samba Jallow who also confirmed to me that Lamin Waa Juwara is shamelessly campaigning for the APRC candidate Essa Saidykhan. Gambians should now know what type of person Waa is. He's unprincipled and lacked morals."Dibba further fumed.

Gambia's Electoral Commission declared Wednesday as campaign proper for this year's legislative elections campaign. Candidates vying for NAM seats have started preparing for their campaign trail activities.

Mr.Dibba, a onetime Gambia Student Union propaganda secretary, for the first time has decided to send his former friend Waa Juwara to the cleaners with his wild accusations against Mbarodi." I know Waa more than any of those people trying to make noise. Waa has never been an honest person. His own uncle Sir Dawada Kairaba Jawara disowned him. He is only interested to lead when he lacked leadership qualities."

According to Ebrima Dibba,Waa Juwara made numerous attempts to offer him Executive role in his NDAM opposition party which he refuses to accept. "Waa even selected me as NDAM propaganda secretary which I declined for principle grounds. Lamin Waa Juwara's political history is not clean. He is only in for leadership and not a follower. I cannot work with such a person. He behaves as if he knows politics when he is not. I don't have respect for flip-flopping politicians like Waa."

Dibba believes that Waa Juwara had outlived his usefulness to his profession and it was time for Waa to call it quits. Waa he said, is a liability to his party,NADD and the Gambia as a nation."Waa should gracefully retire from politics since he is not delivering the goods. His own people don't like him. He failed in past elections. He is a spent force who cannot bring any votes for the APRC. Waa is not a problem to the UDP. We thought it necessary to expose him to Gambians and the outside world. He's a faked."

In this marathon interview, the controversial UDP youth wing member charged that Waa was not "sincre" with the UDP leadership. "Waa is being ungrateful with the UDP. He was bailed out from jail in 1996 by the UDP. The UDP filed a suit on his behalf to seek compensation for him since his rights were abused by the state. He was paid and he never gave any dime to the UDP. On top of that, he was provided with security. I was one of those security officers assigned to Waa. I spent months at his house guarding him. We put our lives on the line to secure him. Pa Manneh of NADD was among the security officers who used to guard Waa. There are other UDP Youth wing security officers who can attest to this fact. I cannot believe that Waa Juwara can be so ungrateful to team up with the APRC, a party that at some point wanted to kill him because of his association with the UDP. We could have been killed on our line of duty by trying to secure Waa. Waa has really let us down."

Dibba who hailed from kombo Brikama, has been a supporter of the opposition UDP way back his tender age. "I can remember in one of our meetings in Kiang, where Waa Juwara cried like a child to lament the type of torture he was exposed to by the APRC regime. If Waa can turn around to support an APRC candidate then Gambians should see him as a mad man. Waa is sick for real. We have been vindicated about our past stories about Waa's sickness."

Dibba never speared the leadership of the opposition NADD."Even NADD is opposed to his action. NADD officials should be honest with Gambians and tell us their position on Waa's conduct. They have betrayed Gambians, but history will judge them. Those trying defend Waa should shut the hell up. I have evidence to confirm that he is in Niamina Dankunku campaigning for the APRC candidate." he concluded.

On the other hand if anyone knows the history of Waa's political affiliation, one shouldn't be surprise that he may be campaigning for an APRC candidate. He is known to have exploited such opportunities before and has cross carpetted to the PPP not once or twice after going independent or NCP.

But I said to you before that the man is a beast. Didn't I? I agree with you anyway that no one should be surprised. These are the last moments of the Dankunku Beast. So you can expect anything from him including turning the guns on the disingenuous NADD leadership.

I never ever trust WAA. Since he joined UDP, I knew for certain that he will bring dispute in the party. He is a crinimal, no joke, he caused the mistrust in the NADD camp. I know him whilst I was working with his buddy who was my junior. He was always in my office whilst in Banjul, when he visit his friend who was also a defeated UDP candidate in the By-election in Kiang.I remember WAA brought a drafted letter with UDP's letterhead seeking for assylum in Swiss. I typed the letter for the two. I still have the copies of the letters with me, including Kemeseng using UDP's letterhead in order to apply for assylum for his son who is currently in US. This is the type of politicians we have in Gambia. CHAMILLION. This is no fake is something very real. If WAA and Kemeseng are reading this they will obviously remember. It happened between 2001 and 2002.

I wouldn't call him a beast. I think it is dishonest to call the man a beast while at one point or another you were in agreement with him. Remember Waa was a number two man in UPD until he fell apart with the party. You guys are bitter at him because he gets in your skin.

Before and upto the 2001 elections we did not hear Waa was a beast until he turned against UPD. I question your sincerity in calling this man names. I disagreed with you then and I still do now because Waa was a UPD hero who went to Jail defending your people.

If you really think he is a political prostitute as Dibba mention in your forwarded piece, then am affraid you SLEPT with the prostitute and therefore you cannot be clean either. It is a crime to be bribed and bribe as well.

The reality is that there are so many politicians like Waa in our small nation. We can go on this forum and start naming names of people who did just like he is doing. Until we are able to weed out these Psedo-politicians, we cannot stand against a weak leader like Jammeh.

Let us spill more beans and reveal what happened in our dirty politics. At the end of the day many cannot quality to pass simple integrity test. Be the judge...

Ladies and gentlemen , what is Waa Juwara's crime ? What is all this fury over mbarodi's political decision ?
I believe Waa is entitled to his political opinions , and political decency requires that we respect that.
It appears shameful that we as proponents of democracy and freedom of political association are out today to publicly "lynch" an individual because he disagrees with us. We need to teach a better lesson .
In my view , while we try to reveal the character of Mbarodi as a "political prostitute" we are in many ways revealing our own intolerant and undemocratic character much like Jammeh.
Please , let us exercise restraint and understand that Waa deserves some commendation for his years of public service, and standing up to injustice at a time when many others were silent.
