serenata, who set the limits and would people be happy with it, limits are a form of control . but some members and i agree with gambiabev that some members just alter a comma.
if you want to comment on something a member has said just comment on that sentence you do not need to copy the whole posting.

gambiabev, I agree. For the 'great chunks' I suggest to quote only the first sentence, like:

I think it's the pedant in me but I just hate to read my postings back and find a mistake (even if it is only a comma in the wrong place). However, I can honsetly say I've never edited a post simply to see it back at the top of the list.
Now I know how annoying other postees find this I think I'll write my replies out in Word, check them for spelling and other errors, then paste them onto Bantaba. It won't do much for sponteneity but who knows maybe I'll learn to live with 'good enough' posts.
I do think we still need the facility to edit posts though. It is quite possible that, on re-reading ones post, one might discover that one has omitted a word or made some other error that completely alters the meaning one is trying to put across.
Yes gambiabev I wholheartedly agree, postings ought to be a progression of thoughts (and ideas). I too usually prefer just to mention the postee's name. However, sometimes I feel it is preferable to edit and include the relevent part of a quote from an earlier posting. This is especially useful when one is replying/referring to a posting made some pages back. It can be tiresome and distracting for someone reading a posting to have to go back through pages of other postings in order to find out what the most recent postee is 'talking about'.
Finally I feel that, as with all things, a degree of tolerance is needed here. We are, a (thankfully) diverse group. Postees have differing styles and levels of literacy. It also takes time to familiarise oneself with the intricacies of posting on Bantaba. |

i dont think people should be allowed to DELETE their postings, AFTER others have replied.
this makes it difficult to follow the debate. i think once you have the courage to write in public fora like the Bantaba, then it becomes public property.
Also Momodou, i dont see how you can maintain an archive if people can always go back and delete things.We would like our grandchildren to know where/what we stand for today!
so i think every one change the posting only if no one else have replied.
if you're not happy with the first posting post another to correct it. for example i realise my Bantaba-english- is very bad but i ignore it. |
