Suicide bombers carried out a rare attack on Istanbul today, targeting one of the city's most popular tourist spots and injuring at least 32 people.

The mid-morning blast in Taksim Square was timed to coincide with celebrations marking the anniversary of Turkey's foundation as a republic and caused shock around the country.

A western diplomat leaving a nearby hotel when the attack occurred described scenes of "shock, chaos and panic".

Halifa Salah: PDOIS is however realistic. It is fully aware that the Gambian voters are yet to reach a level of political consciousness that they rely on to vote on the basis of Principles, policies and programmes and practices.

There are three issues that could be problematic and reason for above.

1. Kurdish Problem.

I blame both Turkish nationalists and Kurdish nationalist for Kurdish Issue. Turkish nationalist must understand the world is different now. They need to acknowledge the Kurdish problem, they can't ignore that any longer. They can't resist cultural and some political rights for Kurdish People. Kurdish population deserve to exercise their citizenship rights fully. there must be cultural and political rights and some autonomy (only local governments). This could be accomplished via de-centralization. Local government must have autonomy in education, health, police enforcement, some local judiciary autonomy needed. Kurdish nationalist have their flaws too. Kurds are 25 % of Turkey but the nationalist Kurdish party only get 5 %. That means 80 percent do not support Kurdish nationalism. There are 25 Kurdish members of parliament from Kurdish nationalist party, 100 in other parties. The leader of the main opposition is Kurdish. Former president was half Kurdish. Current president have Kurdish roots. Kurdish nationalist must condemn the terrorism. They don't do that. That makes situation deadlock. That is the most significant obstacle stopping violence in Turkey. Kurdish issue must be debated in political platform.

2. The competition of conservative Muslims and radical secular.

This is another problem for possible violent acts in Turkey. There are many trials where deep-government, illegal government organizations similar to neo-cons organize violent events, assassination just to undermine other groups. For example, one of the famous leftist author was assassinated by some illegal radical secularist just to blame Islamists for terrorism. The truth come out, he was killed by leftist to blame Islamists. Or try to create environment, illusion of Islamic radicalization, so that military take over.

3. Foreign involvement

Turkey has one of the most strategically important country in the world. Many secret service agents want to influence Turkish public. They sponsor many terrorist organizations from Islamists, Kurdish separatists, Turkish nationalists, radical secularists to change the course of Turkey. Iran and Sauid Arabia support Islamists. Recently, as Turkey and Israel relations got cold, now we hear Israel secret service provide some assistance to the Kurdish separatists. Before Soviet Empire, USA was supporting Turkish Nationalist and Islamists against Soviet. Current government lean to Islam but they have not made any mistake yet. Turkey is moderate nation. I do not think, they will turn to Iran or Saudi Arabia. Israel, west, secret services are trying to influence Turkey to break relations with Iran. They also do not want Turkey to improve relationship with Russia either.
