why are you leaving, i was enjoying your postings , positive things, meeting gods people who are living on the land, back to the essentials and surviving, relaxing. setting up three libraries, seeing two womens projects take off. THE SUNSHINE fab, travelling to janjanbureh and farrefeni, albreda, away from KOMBOS, MEETING SOME LOVELY EXPATS and swopping tales. ABRAHAM what ever your plans for GAMBIA, keep an open mind and a good heart and GOD WILL STEER YOU RIGHT. may your stay away from the BANTABA be short |

I have been there only twice, last year and this one.1000 times being cheated, used, lied to, but i may still go back, because its a good chance to learn to say "NO"!:-) I love the Gambian people, but besides beaches, sunshine, the country has not really much to offer.(Plenty of German friends dont go back, I was told) Some of those bumsters, who used to go to the beach now use the internet for a chance and try this way to make some money and/or get a ticket for Europe. Thats how I got to the Gambia. I guess its only "friends" that makes a toubab to come back?? mayme also the attention they give u, but in some ways i dont like it to be what i am to them, only because i am white....cause we are all the same, no matter if we are black or white. |

dylanger, i think this topic has been covered under a different heading, for the peopel who return we are not "tourists" as such, we go into a differnt category , but as to why return for me its the peope, because sun and sand I can go to Egypt for that, but there interaction with the locals is limited. travel is more restrictive. there |

Jambo,I agree, dispite the bumsters and other drawbacks its the people that very many "returnees" to the Gambia want to see,"we" live in a very different world than the Gambian people,"we" have everything that we could wish for (or so it seems) when "we" revisit the Gambia time after time, dispite being lied to and ripped off sometimes,"we" have the chance to travel and see other lands, most Gambians will never have that chance until the day they die. "WE" are very lucky in our lives. |
