Hi LT, I guess the answer to your question is....go to any country and you can be killed or abducted...Just remember you are reading the media stories and we all know the papers sensationalise to sell their stories.
Go and enjoy, you will love it just don't put yourself in any situations where you could be in danger...that goes for the world.
PEACE x

You are absolutely right lizzielou, Hi, Definately you will have no problem here.Just don't mingle with people like me because I hate the Jammeh regime and I believe I am always being watched.B4b they think you are a western spy. You are most welcome. We are a lovely people is just that we are dying day and night in misterious circumstances and the whole world is mute about it. Please come and enjoy safely. Sitasungo |

lemon time, i am planning to go in june, just be careful where you go. I would not advise against it but just watch out for any annoucements regarding travel, perhaps visit the travel forum. I believe that the next two weeks will be troublesome for Gambia. so just watch the press and keep in touch with Bantaba.

Lemon time, I donīt know if this is a proper answer to your question but yesterday I talked to a close friend of mine who currently is staying in the Gambia. He said that the daily life goes on as usual for average people, (i.e people who are not involved in politics to whom life is not as usual at this point), there is no danger. I think the army should be extremely anxious about not harming visitors. But if there was a demonstration going on, I would stay away. |

People who dissent are disapearing. The president has spies everywhere on his pay role. Even in hotels, some staff are presidents spies against other staff. They report back any anti government talk. I was warned to be careful what I said in public. When I asked people how they were going to vote they were reluctant to answer. Only in private would they say. Is it right that when you vote in Gambia you post a token in the appropriate box? If this is the case someone watching you knows who you have voted for. Intimidation is easy. |

lemon time.... i am going to Gambia next week with my young son. as a mother i would not put my son in any danger. I will be staying with some very special people who i consider more than family. An important member of my family has been arrested. But i still feel safe in Gambia. I was resident in Gambia wen the original coup and alledged counter coup happened and for tourists there was never any danger. |

Jede, I mentioned the next two weeks because after that the country will (should or maybe) be getting ready for the roots festival and African Union I am sure they would not want to upset visitors. These two events will bring media and heads of states to the country. Gambia will be the focus of attention for at least two months. If the au happens it will be finished by end of july. I think the averaage visitor to the country will be safe. regards |
