Thanks Santanfara

When does black become beautiful?
Beauty is in the eye of the none African beholder
The concept of female beauty and desirability is deeply rooted in a self-hatred indulgence of beauty for many Africans the world over. The damaging consequences of trying to be what someone else perceives you to be or some one else’s beauty standards is subjugation of the Self.

If you do not love yourself, who do you expect to love you?
If you do not have self-respect who do you expect to respect you?
It is a question of the relationship between the African and herself

powerful questions janko. the sad thing is even socalled educated black women are no execption to this self-hate phinomina. as you rightly said, others perception of beauty is what is driving this life style.

Afrolicious

This inspires black woman who are told they aren't beautiful because of the way their hair looks. great job!!

The greatest thing about natural is that not one person has the same style/texture. Each one is unique. GORGEOUS!

i love been natural
and i loveeee the afro

whats more beautiful than a natural african
woman nothing.

I think afros are so pretty....hair is pretty, period. I don't know why people try to get weaves and stuff to cover it up. I can understand wanting a little change but why not appreciate what you have right? Especially if it's beautiful.

Thanks to all, I have a question;

What is the difference between natural beauty and cultural beauty?

What about the fact that some women do have natural long hair and do not need fake hair.

I think when you get to a certain age it doesn't hurt giving what nature blessed you with a helping hand I remember reading years ago the art of good make up is to look like your not wearing any

I agree a little helping hand does no harm
I went out with a girl who had a face like the back of a bush taxi so took her to see the local garage to see if the panel beater could help

Gasp..'women do their hair' shock.

Cor this is big news. Why haven't I read about this in the papers?

Question to African ladies: When you straighten the hair, are you doing it to be European? No controversy, I genuinely want to know. My assumption is I doubt it. In Hackney here I see an impressive array of hairdos on Black ladies, they are works of art, only possible because of the type of hair that a caucasian hair wouldn't hold.

NO woman ever really does 'natural'. Men just don't really understand.

My hair is obviously naturally curly, but because of my ethnicity
the curls are loose.
I can blow dry my hair straight without the use of chemicals.
I tend to straighten it if I have time(takes about 2 hours), always when I travel as its easier to manage.

I never thought about looking European, though I suppose my clothes give that fact away.
