Fatou Jaw Manneh’s Trial Lingers On

The trial of Journalist Fatou Jaw Manneh, who was arrested upon arrival at Banjul International Airport, almost a year ago, is yet to proceed.
When she went to court on Monday, 10 March, the case did not proceed and she was asked to return on Tuesday. But when she went back to court yesterday she was asked to return on 17 March, 2008.
In July last year the trial Magistrate at Kanifing Magistrates Court ruled that the court had no jurisdiction to hear the case and therefore transferred the case to Banjul Magistrates Court. In August the trial Magistrate decided that the trial should be held in Brikama. Upon appeal by the state to the high court, the case was again transferred to Kanifing Magistrates Court. This was in December 2007. Since then the case is yet to proceed.
