There is a study in U.S. here that indicates that contrary to popular belief , men infact talk more than women. Do you belief that? Remember those long hours on the phone , you wanna go to sleep she just keeps talking? Afterall wasn't it women who invented language? Isn't it already proven (for all these centuries)that women are the talkers , we the men belief in action ?

The worst chatterboxes I know are men! But I must admit I like to chat with them

Isn't it the case that men talk and women think....... !!
Hence, if women were in control of the politics there would be fewer wars and greater harmony........ because it would all be thought and not loads of hot air ....... |

I adore and respect my women folks, but honestly they like parroting more than wemen , especially here in the west, where attimes they are more bored than back in Africa where social prgms are plenty. |

Gambian culture or tradition is that men don't do the cooking, washing and other domestic work. Men don't even get near the kitchen and even if you have wife working a maid (female) is there to cover domestics and totally different in Europe and other countries.
What do you say about that and whether modernisation will change what we are accustomed to? HE or SHE |

Madis Iīm glad that cracked you... Nothing can shut him up. He is like a robot that you turn on and something goes wrong and you canīt turn him off
About men not getting near the kitchen, I donīt think thats gonna change not as long as we are in gambia. What amazes me is that gambian men living in the west do cook and help with the other household work, especially if they are living with a western woman. But the moment they set foot in gambia they donīt wanna help their wives with any of those stuff. Can any of the fellow tell me why?????????? |

Easy, women in the west have been allowed to be equal,in Gambia there is still a culture of motherhood and housekeeping duties are womens work and no self respecting Gambian man would want it any other way!I can hear the women now boiling with rage, saying things like......... Thats sexist.........WE are better than men anyway........backed up by the politically correct lobby....and feminist lobby..........( I have got my tin hat on now wwEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE missed me!!!) |

The culture is that women do the domestic work and men go out and work to provide for the family, right You said that any respected man would not want it any different, then answer me this: How do you expect a woman to respect her husband who sit home all day doing nothing drinking ataya, while the woman work hard to provide for the family and do the domestic work too She is both doing his and her job. |

Sibo,What you say is true,Gambian men have reached a stage of depression, they are depressed that often they cannot find work and when they find work they get ripped off, so they give up,and chat and drink attaya.I will admit that my posting was very in cheek, and designed to get the topic going,I know many women who are very very hard working and keep their family together. As a man I think that a culture has developed in Africa where the man has given up and all he does now is makes children, and enjoys himself. |

Giving up working in gambia or africa in general is givinh up on your family. I call tht irresponseble. How do those men expect their families to survive without their paychecks????? My opinion is if they canīt find a job out side the house the last they can do is to help around the house, it wonīt kill them. After doing nothing all day or givinh the wife money for food, some of them will have the gutts to aks the wife fo food and some times even beat the wife up for the food being late. The is where I draw the line. Some men back home think their wives are their maids or slaves. Some gambian men have to start treating their women with respect.

In the Gambia , women traditionally stay at home and care for the family (domestic work) while men are the bread winners. It used to be like that in the Western world also until the industrial revolution. But you know sociologists have found something about men who help with domestic chores and men who do not. These studies are largely based on Western societies , but may be applicable in third world countries too. When I return I will try to discuss this subject in datail , hoping to shed more light on this gender problem in the Gambia.

Yes very true I have seen it and it should not be.But if you have no self respect left because you cannot find work then dispair takes over your life and you exist, thats all.
