Sali and Kon, I agree with you 100% but you have to look at it in the paradoxical context as well Africa depends on her population as a means of survival.History also tought us that in those days(some years ago) families strenght was measured by their numbers and we have even seen that in manufestation in the Gambia certain large families are prosperous and well to do.I think it depends on the ability of society to improve and not just to be lazy and idle completely dependant on your fellow.Not all can sit in offices some have to be labourers that doesn't mean that they are the least in society. Am happy you mentioned China India and Brazil.Despite comminism,China has developed both it educational and productive sectors and these countries being one of the world's most populous nations, and yet they becoming an economic super power is a model worth cuppying. If any one is thinking of reducing the African population by sterlising some of our labour force(due to hardship reduction),that person should never be allowed to set foot on our soil for where he/she comes from has people not plants.You can now see some neo colonialist ideas in some Europeans still?When the world is moving forward to economic self sustainability,they are thinking of still pinning Africa so that we can be left behind.No wonder we still have wars because you sponsors them to reduse our population.But God is seing you. Janyanfara, This is one of themes i mentioned before. Because the West has done or accept something does not necessary mean that we should adopt.Let them have one or two kids.We are different.
For us, the concepts of pension plans or savings accounts or the welfare state is in its infancy( if it already exist at all).So having children is the only means by which we could ensure our own survival once we had become too feeble to get our own food.This is the rationale for our parents and i think they are so ahead of their time.
