Yaya as Chairman of the National Aids Council & President has done immense damage to the WORLD by his intellectual inbalance or conniving theory.

I say, The World, because the people in The Gambia & other parts of Africa & Asia who have been denied or unable to have access to education will believe 'there is a cure' and prevention mentally will be toned-down.

We are a travelling globe and everyone must be aware that there is no cure, HIV and the locally opportunistic infection will take your life, or, in time will usually lead to AIDS, and that will kill you, painfully and slowly.

He has practically undone twenty years of dedicated work by those working in the Health & Aid Agencies especially UNAIDS, UNICEF & WHO

Can anyone on bantaba see him backing down from his words or the television interview?
Is there anyone here who remembers the publicity of the drug in Kenya known as Kemron?

If all of this has been said on bantaba before - apologies - I have been away, and only skimmed through some postings the past days.

AIDS is a fatal disease, at present, there is no cure.

The world would be a poorer place if it was peopled by children whose parents risked nothing in the cause of social justice, for fear of personal loss. (Joe Slovo - African revolutionary)

For Germans/people living in Germany it may be interesting to read the magazine 'Der Spiegel' this week. There is an article about the healing powers of the Gambian president. I am quite sure he wouldn't like it at all... They put him in a row with notorious psychos like Bokassa.

Serenata, similar articles have been published in Dutch newspapers as well.
Very nice to see you back, indeed! Have you recovered from the skiing aftermath?

When an old African dies, it is as if a whole library has burnt down.

Mbay,
I think it is a wastage of time to speculate on this cure. I have had the same stand all the time.

Just read this in the court section of The Point newspsper

'A fake doctor was recently arraigned at the Banjul Magistrates’ Court and sentenced to 10 months’ imprisonment.

(name deleted by poster) was arrested by the police late last year on suspicion that he was going round town, claiming to be a certified medical practitioner.

Before handing down his judgement, the presiding magistrate, Kaiyeode, explained that the action of **** constituted a threat to the health of the community, adding that he had ventured into an area that borders on human health and even their very survival.'

Hmm can't see the same fate befalling the President.

Thank you, Anna and Mbay! I am also glad to see you here.

My arm is not yet fully ok, but it's much better after almost 3 months of hospital, rehab (still going on) and relaxing in the village. Next week I'll start working again, but only a few hours a day.

If Jammeh can really cure HIV infections, he should not be afraid to prove it. 'Der Spiegel' wrote that he sent some patients' blood to a lab in Senegal for testing, but only after the treatment. For a real proof, he should have sent the same patients' blood before and after the treatment. If he refuses this, he can't expect to be taken serious.

For me it is no doubt that African traditional medicine can do a lot for the Aids patients' wellbeing, and that this is also the case with Jammeh's treatment. But if someone claims to cure such a severe, deadly illness, he/she should be able to prove it. Otherwise you could even call this person guilty of murder by negligence, because many people could forget about their protection and get infected because they think Aids is curable now.
