Recognise= Identify as already known, accept as true or existing, treat as valid, notice, show of appreciation
Legitimate= authorised by or in accordance with law, fairly deduced
[Collin Dictionary]
I am ok with the assertion that APRC is the internationally recognised government of the Gambia and can do things that any legitimate government would do but I would still use the word recognise rather than legitimate just like the US Ambassador did in 1996 having posited that the legitimacy of the regime is 'flawed'. That was his word, not mine.
There is a very important technical difference between the word 'Recognise' and 'Legitimate'.

All coup makers have one highway they drive on. They know their's in the first is typically illegal. What do you expect? Bid for recognition. Lansana Conte is more than 20 years as a coup making president. Nothing changed. He still rides on that coup making mentality. So it goes with Jammeh and all coup made regimes. What is the point about all the state of terror in Gambia? Why is the regime so worried about others wanting to stage coups? The coup making mind suffers from an infection of mistrust. There is perpetual mistrust bogging them. Even in day light, they hardly trust those closest to them. There is more to it than the capacity to lobby for recognition. Election, Election, Election. Yes, that is the instrument of democracy to baffle the world of civilised nations and institutions. Tell us what is not military about APRC government. Free yourself from the magnets of this Jammeh deceptive popularity.

Now tell us what other instrument is available to all the citizens living around the globe to test our democracies?

Jammeh says over and over that he does not believe in democracy. He claims about Africanism (which unfortunately struggles TO BE) The only reason why he resorts to ELECTIONS is because that is the most applicable instrument of the democracy he fails to embrace. Why will any president need democracy to win votes and impose care-free arbitrary rule once the votes are gone? That is the principal contradiction subject to curious assessment. In short, I would not use the instruments of any system I do not believe or hate to practise. That is exactly what Jammeh does, something critical observation picks on.

One could say that many leaders don't really believe in democracy because their tongues say one thing and their actions something else. That's politricks for you. Living in the bastion of democracy the UK. Millions of people to the streets in 2002 against the Invasion of Iraq all the way to Westminister. Did this stop the War? No The War on Terror is said to bring democracy has it?
Many countries electoral systems are unfair because they have not adopted proportional representation to have a more representive legislator to ensure the inclusion of divergent views.
Karamba stated "Why will any president need democracy to win votes and impose care-free arbitrary rule once the votes are gone?"
karamba all Leaders do this. The voters vote in a government and then for the next five years they lay down the rules. If they have a overwhelming majority they can get almost anything they wish through the legislator good or bad. If the opposition is weak. In the case of Gambia the oppostion only has 6 seats between 3 different politicial entities. Therefore the APRC is in a very strong position to get its policies through the leglislature.

APRC government is more legitimate than any other government one can think about. Jammeh won on three presidential elections with landslide victories, so what will make/change that government illegitimate. We have to be sincere to ourselves and call "The spade the spade". Elections are over and is time for us to come together, and work collectively for our own interest. Long live H E Doctor Yahya Jammeh Mu Zanieb and the Gambian people. |

There`s no use arguing over spilt milk as the elections are over. The APRC has once again succeeded in manipulating the volatile minds of my fellow country men for another five-year mandate. There`s no surprise about the results cus elections in the gambia have never been known to be fair that we can all see , except if we are turning deaf ears on the truth. Gambians are still not aware that Jammeh is not development oriented. Jammeh is a self-imposed dictator who only cares about his fambouyant life style instead of the gambian people. It`s fair to ascert that elections are free and fair when we see opposition candidates intimidated and arrested during the campagne, but we still call the elections free and fair. i can`t really imagine a situation like this. |
