History repeats itself. Leaders with great vision and humbleness are never fully discovered until they seize to exist. Dr. M.L.King's greatness, vision, and potentials were not discovered until he was eliminated. The world needed to protect him and listen to him while he was alive. Today the whole world even his enemies honors him
I am not necessarily equating Halifa with Dr. King, but look at some of his basic human and leadership trades. The man is down to earth, humble, intellectual, full of knowledge and wisdom. He has no desire for fame, wealth, or greed for a larvish life style. He is born to serve and will do regardless of where he is.
Gambians and Africans in general don't understand the difference between the leadership they envision and the kind of leaders they need to uplift our continent from its sorry state.
Gambians in particular wants a flashy leader, a King who builds a wall between him and his fellow citizens. They want someone with giant cars and miracles to cure people. Africa have seen all kind of godly leaders, kings that spin and water flows with supernatural powers if you know what I mean..and yet we are worst today than we have ever been..
History repeats itself and we will one day sit and bite our fingers for not making best use of such human talent and gift. Call me Halifa's disciple and "if it is good then am that" Muhamed Ali. Look out for a new role for Mr. sallah.. hold your head high and be proud of being humble and true to yourself...

As a concerned gambian keenly following political happenings back home, i can`t afford to ignore my dissappointment with the gambian( serekunda central to be specific) electorates for letting somebody like Halifa out of the national assembly. Its hard to imagine but i`m now convinced that elections will not be the tool to uproot Yaya Jammeh and his cronies from state house in the next 10 years.People may raise eyebrows but we can all see how politically brainwashed the gambian illiterate electorates are by the jammeh campange team. These people for the past years have succeeded in making our electorates believe that jammeh mean the world to them, and without him gambia will not move forward. I for one is saying gambia is not developing contrary to what they preach because economically we are moving backward. Gambians are getting poorer by day and Jammeh is continuously bragging about his developmental projects saying gambians will be ungrateful to vote for the opposition, because he has done a lot for the country. Mr president, i`m saying i havn`t just seen these developments that u talking about!!! Gambia is the smallest country in mainland Africa, so if the moneys u are using for your endless celebrations were/are used for development then we will see a different gambia. You need to cut your celebrations and focus on development since elections will continue to be rigged in one way or the other. For Halifa go and get your PHD, u have done a lot for the gambia but gambians can`t still see your efforts. There are numeroes uppportunities for u to explore.

thanks every one for your strong comments on the political suiside that our folks have committed. we are all firm believers of the values of democracy ,but alas it cannot work in the gambia at the moment. my brother sanusi have made a point . some body who is blind cannot see were he/she is going ,and that is the state our electorate are . i knew this a while ago that is why i do not advocate for democratic process in the gambia .it will not work as long as jammeh is seating in state house with his mad stick. gambians have proof time and time again that they don't know why they vote . they are use to going to the polling station but the reason is still a dilema to them ,we have to help them by a differnt method .... i have advocate for that here earlier , a drastic and quick tactic is what is require and if brothers are willing ,it is a very easy process. down with jammeh and his cohorts. sister omega is a gambian if not why the sohia bah. this is not a jaimican name (bah). i believe you an agent of state house. |

Santanfara, some people don`t just get that we don`t hate jammeh as a person but what he does.Let me tell u something, i used be a jammeh supporter for the first two years he came to power, but alas all the admire i had for the man had died out. This is not because of anything but the man talk too much and do very very little. Yes the man was doing sometime for the first three years, but that started to fade away when he was made to believe that he is our saviour(Christ) by a very tiny minority of gambians who are after nothing but their selfish interests. Yaya being the fool he is, can`t up to now discern himself from the vultures around him. This people are just after tips they recive from you!!!!! and mark u,the time is surely coming when they will be the first people to castigate u when the rain showering your world bank dries out. when i learnt in the early hours of the faithful day that the leader of the July 22 1994 coup was a Jola, i was overwhelmed with joy saying that this can only be the work of Allah. I`m not tribalist but considering the situation jammeh was prior to july 1994, even if the greatest marabout in the universe tell him that he will oneday occupy the sit at statehouse, he will answer in the negative.God who can do the impossible gave him the power and now jammeh is playing demi-god taking lives as he wishes, but his dark days are surely coming cus his arrogance is getting toomuch. This should have made him the 'best' president in the world cus he was living a struggling life like most gambians b4 the impossible happened. The gambia would have been like singapore if the lavish life style he is living is cut and concentrated in the development of dear gambia. Mr president for the sake of the life u lived b4 1994, consider the plight of 1.5 million gambians who are living in abject poverty who are not assured of the next day`s meals when u engage in your 'wild' celebrations!!! Gambians are really suffering but for sure the miracle could happen again |

Hagai,
This is exactly how i used to feel before. Yahya's biggest mistake is the fact that he talks too much and has grown pompous overnite. He and his gov't with the support of Gambians and friends of the Gambia have realised some form of development since 1994. His background should have taught him better, by being humble and allow those who know things better do their jobs.
Another good point you made, is the fact that Jammeh has allowed parasites to infiltrate his gov't just as they have done to Sir Dawda.
Jammeh is a small fraction of the Gambian problem. The biggest are opposition who if they had put away their differences in the interest of the country Jammeh and his Gov't would have been defeated and Gambians would usher in a new gov't.
Wade of Senegal has battled the PS(parti socialist) of Senghor and Diouf for close to 40yrs(i stand to be corrected) before he finally won. He won via a tactical alliance code named SOPI or ALTERNANCE, meaning change. They created a euphoria that even swept the incumbent then Abdou Diouf, Diouf was chanting along the slogan(SOPI) becos he was taken by surprise and had no alternative.
Unless the opposition come together, a one party state will come in. I said this here before the legislative elections and some people wanted to tear me apart. It is a fact. A useless opposition in country is tantamount to having a one-party state period.

I don`t think elections will be the tool to uproot jammeh from state house, or better still i did not see that kind of opposition in the gambia for the next ten years. The reason being the current opposition will not form a merger n they don`t want to give chance to a new breed of Gambian politicians. We all see the mess they are causing, the inner circle fighting amongst themselves is just shameful. A new breed of gambian opposition is what is in this crusade cus they have terribly failed us. |
