all those close to jammeh know for sure that he doesn't rely on any islamic spiritual powers . the guy consult his own ancestorial tradition than islamic powers. people are watching and waiting .he will fail in all this noncense. |

Why is it nonsense? If you read or know about African Traditional leaders many possessed healing powers. As the saying goes "the proof of the pudding is the eating." Time will be the best judge into whether Jammeh has the gift of healing or not. As many religious or spiritual people recognise that judgement is left to Our Creator. Jammeh is not the first or will not be the last to call upon spiritual and ancestral powers to heal people. Although many would prefer to do this in secrecy Jammeh has now made his healing powers public and of course this will leave him open to scrutiny but he feels confident enough of his gifts to publicise them. I personally feel if chronically asmatic or HIV/AIDs patients are relieved of their suffering then this is positive action on behalf of Jammeh. I'm sure his beneficiaries won't be complaining if they are cured.

Sister, In this case the guy has no powers at all. Aids can be cured by science and medicine. If the case was true, then all the Hiv-possitiv in the Arabic countries would have been cured. There is a limit to everything. I as for one does not belive in what was said. |

Alhassan I don't know whether Jammeh can cure HIV/AIDS or Asthma. Jammeh says he can do it. It is now up to Jammeh to prove it. So if what is reported is true then let's wait and see. We hope that through science and medicine a cure will be found. The only way to know if Jammeh's medicine works is if it is used in medical trails. There are so many illnesses and diease which in the past were seen as incurrible until antidotes were found, and all medicines come from a plant or animal source of some kind. I'm keeping an open mind on this issue but I'm sure you would agree that if a cure is found for these dieases by Jammeh or anyone else this will be a tremendous leap forward in the right direction.

Is jammeh practicing witchcraft or medicine ? The Chairman himself has said that there is no such thing as a witch doctor. He said you are either a witch or a doctor. My guess is he is a "witch" for many reasons. 1. Jammeh's "medicine" is at no time clinically tested and varified. Nobody knows what the heck he has. The whole thing is shrouded in the secrecy of "witchcraft". 2. If Jammeh claims to be a doctor , then he must follow the proper method that doctors and scientists use , that is the scientific method. Until he does that he cannot claim a position in science. 3. He keeps saying that he has to "work on instructions and mandates" and if he goes beyond those mandates he will pay a price. My question is whose mandate ? Is the Chairman referring to a supernatural realm ? Thursdays are preserved for ten HIV/AIDS patients and Saturdays are preserved for 100 asthma patients. Why Thursday and Saturdays ? What is the science behind that , or is it time constraint ? 4. The Chairman also mentioned that he has to work with doctors he trust , who will not sabotage his medicine/treatment. Well that seems to spoil the whole show . Are these doctors gonna be handpicked by Jammeh to rubberstamp like the IEC and the National Assembly ?
But my biggest problem with Jammeh's "medical practice" is that whether it is legal . Medicine is like law , you have to be licensed to practice it (I don't however know about the Gambia though). In the U.S. you could be prosecuted for doing this kind of activity because it potentially harms the public. Suppose all of Jammeh's first ten HIV/AIDS patients dies (may God forbid)immediately after taking the medications/herbs. Can anyone sue the president for damages such as medical malpractice or wrongful death? Who authorize Jammeh to walk into our hospitals without any qualifications or varifiable training and start delivering concoctions to our people ? Would any medical doctor be part of this scheme ? Who would be the three doctors to throw away the medical ethics of their noble profession and join Jammeh in this potentially dangerous venture ? The Chairman also wants to , in future, package and ship his products to Taiwan. Taiwan ???? |

You see Jammeh's claims are no different from the claims made by many others in the past. There were many traditional healers in the West Africa who claimed to have a cure for HIV/AIDS. Nigeria is one prominent place where traditinal medicine and practitioners became recognized , yet they haven't made much impact. Go to the internet , there are thousands of sites claiming cures for all kinds of things using traditional herbs. The closest promise to finding a cure for HIV/AIDS in Africa was perhaps the research conducted by Dr. Ogiambo of kenya et al. Dr. Ogiambo was one time a U.N. resident representative in the Gambia , he and others created a very promising product called "kemron" in late 1980s to early 1990s. However , the product failed short for some reason. This research by Dr. Ogiambo and others was published and well scrutinized by the scientific community and others and strongly debated. That is how science operates , the works of scientists are scrutinized by others to determine it's truth and accuracy. Jammeh needs to put his method , if any , on paper so we can look at it and verify it. He can hire lawyers (intellectual property lawyers)to make sure his product is patented and not stolen by others. Unless this is done , we can only look at the Chairman as a "witch-doctor". |

Sister Omega, Jammeh's claim is nonsense and time will proof it. The notion that African traditional leaders had healing powers was a myth and meant to dominate society. Why are we Africans so easily fooled into believing something nonsensical like Jammeh is claiming. I repeat again, if he can cure anything he would have cured his own MOTHER. Why did he allow her to be flown to a foreign country to receive modern medical treatment.
The so called African healing which is not scientifically proven is all garbage and the only reason why we are where we are today. It did not and does not work for us, so why insist on it for decades?
If Jammeh believes so much in his supernatural powers, why does he have security guards and tons of guns stored at the state house? What powers has this man got apart from the will to destroy anything good about us?
People are sick and tired of this unending madness that has left Africa with nothing but human bones and scales. What else do we have to see to belief that our so called traditional medicines are not working for ourselves much more for the world? This is madness, and it is infectious as many on this forum are already affected. When shall Africa be free from this mental retardness? Time will proof all these as garbage period. |
