Dr. Jammeh's cures should certainly make World News headlines. Should the cures be patented or freely given to suffering humanity? Does he not stand in line to receive the Nobel Prize for medicine and for his name to be entered in the scroll of honour once these cures are clinically tested and verified? Indeed he stands to make a fortune - and fame - if these claims are not merely political.

I try to dampen my friend's nationalsitic enthusiasm but to no avail as he assures me “Blessed are those who haven’t seen and yet believe” (John 20:29) and tell him about the Golden Rule:

The miracle-man’s fame is increasing. There he is all dressed in pure white – We can’t see the colour of his shoes from here, but I bet that they are both white.
The president's charisma is increasing. It looks like it’s another Junior Jesus in the making about to baffle unbelieving (kuffar) scientists as he straddles the world stage.
The president's charisma is increasing. People wonder is it another Junior Jesus in the making, this time curing the sick (perhaps soon he will be curing the deaf, dumb and blind who do not return and who don't listen to him, who can't hear him, who are afraid to speak their minds, and in time give sight to those blind ones who cannot yet see the light, maybe turn water into Venezuelan and Iranian oil or Kanilai (de-alcoholised) wine?
As the saying goes, " Wonders never cease!"
One thing's for sure: should he command Lazarus " Take up your bed and walk !" and he does start raising the dead, then at the next election he will get more than the 67.23% of the votes which he grabbed this time.
Meanwhile we might experience some revolutionary Islamic influences coming from his best friend in Iran which would be much better than him deriving some other types of inspiration from his other friend St.Hugo of Caracas, the very thought of which should make Karamba lose consciousness:

In a more humane passion, I am worried for the poor president. President Jammeh is like a lost child in the wilderness of a mechanic baloon not knowing which button to strike for either recue or exit. He swept the polls (only his counting satanic powers at the Independent Electoral Collaborators -IEC) know the truth. He still seems unhappy that even while some Gambians have seen the ballot boxes carried on open trucks, they still don't believe and would not bother not being blessed with a sprinkle of holy Kanilai waters. This time it is the claim to being master discoverer where all wise men and scientific universities have failed.
My worry for the president is that God forbid, should any of the selected 10 patients meet their death under the president's prescribtions, the president would earn greater fame for the wrong reasons. Cornelius, with your wider access, a word to one of the president's confiants would save us from the eruption. |

My dear fellow,
Clarity here: First of all I do not trust anyone who associates with those who would like to "wipe out" Israel or who are anti-Israel. They have no place in my heart.
http://www.hebrewsongs.com/psalm92.htm
http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?book_id=23&chapter=92&version=31
I am not superstitious, I too believe in Black Power! If this is not some kanilai bogey thing, then the Gambian president stands to receive many honours and his name will be recorded in history as one who intended and succeeded in serving humanity. The Gambian economy will bloom (not like grass) as King David observes the tide of his times in Psalm 92, about “When the wicked bloom like grass and all the doers of iniquity blossom” Ever since he became a doctor, healing must have been operating on various levels of his mind during the day and night, as he witnesses the daily sufferings of people mostly in need of medical care. It is to that need he is responding with his whole heart. If you could, you too would and the saying is “If wishes were horses then beggars would ride.”
We are talking about a mandate here. A mandate from whom? The people?
Are they insured? Dr Jammeh says:
”Now I have the mandate to publicly treat all the diseases on condition that the patient will be treated publicly.”
As da man say and here he is not talking about da coup: “Since 1994, there are many Gambians who know what I can do”
”I am not speculating on my medicine. There are living witnesses to what my medicine can do. As far as I am concerned it takes only five minutes to cure asthma.”
Are there any witnesses who died?
Well, the English language as you rightly pointed out not so long ago is not the monopoly of only the Gambians.
Da president sez:
People were saying, "Well, the President. This is what he does. He will introduce very effective medicines and all of a sudden it will die down and we will not have access to him."
It seems that his spiritual power has already touched your heart and little did I dream that I would see the day when you would be expressing such tender sentiments as “I am worried for the poor president” – I thought that you were so vicious that you would have been glad if he had kicked the bucket.
In your ”more humane passion” you may still be more fascinated by the attraction of miracles, the supernatural and the president’s spiritual powers to heal than you are worried about his temporal powers being increased by special decree. You see these past two weeks we have been reading the Torah portions( Chapters 1-9 of Exodus) which show us the power of the Almighty displayed through the hand of His ambassadors to the Pharaoh of Egypt, Moses and Aaron. We witness Aaron throwing down his staff as commanded by the Almighty, Blessed is He, and his staff turning into a snake which the Pharaoh sees as a sea-serpent which swallows all the snakes that have been produced by the Pharaoh’s Egyptian magicians.
It is significant that the Almighty hardens the Pharaoh’s heart.
President Jammeh as you see - on the contrary, is trying to do good to his people and therefore in my opinion, he ought to drop the possessive pronoun ” MY” – "My medicine" etc and acknowledge himself as an instrument and servant of the Creator of the Quranic power and the herbal power.....
Karamba, this IS serious: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/6277379.stm You underestimate Chavez’s powers to inspire your president. Ahmadinejad said Chavez is the leader of the anti-imperial forces. Yahya could have caught the supernatural bug from Ah-mad-in-e-jad:
http://www.rferl.org/featuresarticle/2005/11/184cb9fb-887c-4696-8f54-0799df747a4a.html
Ahmadinejad was surrounded by "a light" when he addressed the UN last year, and the president of the Supreme leader did drop off at Banjul to inspect a guard of honour mounted by his best friend in Africa before taking off for Venezuela. (Mind you, I do not disbelieve the Iranian president's testimony about the light- there are far more extraordinary matters in even more mundane surroundings than can be viewed from the podium of the General Assembly and I must tell you that unlike Sunnism, Shia Islam, with Imam Reza Alaihi salaam ( the eight Imam and the Imam of Sufi initiation whose ziyarat is in Mashad - Shism has a heavy mystical component so there is no real need to have a separate branch called " sufism" - Erfan it is....and there is the Nur-Muhammadi and more about that in Majlisi's works....
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Allameh_Majlesi
But moving from the sublime to the mundane airplane:
Just look at the flight route Tehran- Banjul- Caracas – what an axis! Your apparent unconcern – despite the fact that you say some military laws still hover over the Constitution, you do believe it unlikely that he (Jammeh) is all poised to follow in the Chavez footsteps and rule by decree like Chavez his presidential buddy, which I should think is the kind of announcement from Kanilai that would cause you to collapse and your nearest and dearest to phone for the ambulance as a result of which you could arrive unconscious and stretched out on a stretcher only to wake up at that Teaching Hospital where your president is practicing on that particular day – and thankfully - to be revived by his perhaps sprinkling some baptismal drops of the holy kanilai water on your unbelieving but by no means cringing brow......wow and would you not be grateful that he brought you back to life after the hysterical media had reported your ess had gone to grass for good?
Cringing brow?: http://web.uflib.ufl.edu/cm/africana/diop.htm
There’s a lot of precision here (Never on a Sunday with Doris Day):
The healing days are: “The mandate I have is that HIV/Aids cases can be treated on Thursdays........”
Asthma healing on the Sabbath ( when it is permitted to work – yes, saving lives):
” For asthma, I have to choose between Saturday and Friday.” (Dr. Jammeh)
” I am not a witch doctor and in fact you cannot have a witch doctor. You are either a witch or a doctor. ” (Dr. Jammeh)
Instead of “a word to one of the president's confidants” it could be better to talk to the man himself and certainly better than that is to talk to the Almighty and beg Him to save us from the ”eruption” that there is reason to fear......
http://www.jewishencyclopedia.com/view.jsp?artid=551&letter=E
The Almighty has also promised in the first two verses of Haphtarah Vaeira (Ezekiel 28: 25 – 26)
” 28:25 Thus saith the Lord GOD: When I shall have gathered the house of Israel from the peoples among whom they are scattered, and shall be sanctified in them in the sight of the nations, then shall they dwell in their own land which I gave to My servant Jacob. 28:26 And they shall dwell safely therein, and shall build houses, and plant vineyards; yea, they shall dwell safely; when I have executed judgments upon all those that have them in disdain round about them; and they shall know that I am the Lord their God.' ”
Ah yes, by now the scientists should be arriving in flocks to test the cures under laboratory conditions or to behold the wonders. The president has agreed to the bottom line of verifiable scientific investigation and has himself insisted that only those diagnosed as ill will be treated:
” Now I have the mandate to publicly treat all the diseases on condition that the patient will be treated publicly. In fact, the first and the most important condition is that the person must be diagnosed by a medical practitioner or a medical institution. I am not authorised to treat anybody who just feels sick without a doctor's confirmation. I can treat asthma and HIV/Aids and the cure is a day's treatment” (Dr J)
”As I said, I will not treat anybody who is not diagnosed as asthmatic or a HIV/Aids patient by a doctor. I don't want to give my medicine to a wrong person. So the reason why I called you is that I have to work with a team of doctors that I can trust. Doctors who will not sabotage my treatment. That does not in anyway mean that I will give them the medicine.” ( The president of the Gambia)
So it is no matter of the Emperor’s new clothes or as Malcolm said about the house Negroes, when the master is sick, instead of praying that he dies – and no crocodile tears, in sympathy they say “Yes, we sick massa” in the spirit of abasement according to the devils dictionary:
http://www.alcyone.com/max/lit/devils/a.html
You talk about ”Satanic powers” the word Satanic always reminds me of Salman Rushdie instead of the devil. So please don’t look up the word ” Medicine” in this devils’ dictionary.... |

More sceptically speaking after Arthur Ashe died........
Our dear brother Alhaji Jammeh the healer.
Sceptically but not cynically speaking, even after Arthur Ashe dies…..
http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&q=Arthur+Ashe&meta=
How many miracle-working presidents are there in the world? In Africa? In the Gambia?
"So you will realise that the whole ward that we took care of yesterday were coincidentally, all Muslims.”
This could explain part of his power as a faith healer - of Be-lie-vers…..believers.
The others (the Kuffar) attempting to walk on the holy Kanilai water without faith may sink to the bone, like a stone and the crocodiles could be grateful. No one without faith would dare walk on crocodile-infested waters – do you agree?
Then there are the hospital staff yes men and patients.
(Sheikh Sadiq of Qom told me this one before my first English lesson with him. Keeping it short, it’s about a man who passes out (much as Karamba is likely to pass out should the news hit him that president Jammeh suddenly got some urgent legislation through the Gambian Parliament empowering him to rule by decree, for the next 18 months, like his brother Hugo Chavez). So this guy passes out. They take the poor guy to the hospital, take his pulse, listen to his heartbeat which is also zilch and the doctor confirms him as dead as a dodo. Early next morning they are transporting him to the morgue on a stretcher when he wakes up, sits up and shouts at the doctor wheeling him on his way to perform a post-mortem on him: “Hello! Where am I and what the hell is going on here?!!” “You’re dead” answers the doctor. No I’m not- "Yes you are" replies the Doctor " Do you know better than me, I’m the doctor.” And continues his journey.)
So far for the dictatorship in some classrooms and Sheikh Sadiq had made his point. But back to a sceptical perspective on the Thursday & Friday to Saturday healings:
The yes–up or shut- up back-up - that's always the Authorised testimony. There’s also the saying “Blessed are those who haven’t seen but still believe” and so those who haven’t seen “believe” and to be important can even say that they have seen – they were there, they saw, even they were healed - and so the rumours take wings and fly.
If only you too could feed the masses with five loaves and two fishes......
The claims are enough to attract world wide attention, but the BBC hasn’t got there yet to interview the Quranic and Herbal-healing president and to re-view the patients.
On the down side, do we remember when Thabo Mbeki said that HIV doesn’t cause AIDS?
There was an uproar and Mbeki became a villain in the eyes of many.

This also happened in Nigeria, don’t laugh, at "the tent of assembly" among student Evangelicals. The preacher was preaching. At the point of my entry he was cursing the devil and telling us that ALL ILLNESS, SICK-NESS and DISEASE IS FROM THE DEVIL! He then invited all those who wore glasses to go up to him and in the name of (you -know- who - you - know the guy’s name) we would be throwing away our glasses – forever!!! Amen, the congregation agreed. I must tell you, I’m a sceptic, but I stood in line, in the queue leading up to the dais from which he was preaching and performing in the usual American charismatic evangelical full gospel business man’s style. When it was my turn he asked me to take off my glasses which I did and he flung them on a pile of other glasses and was going to shatter them with a karate blow but luckily I stopped him and he started to curse the devil instead. He threatened the devil responsible in Jesus' name and kept on swearing on Jesus’ name to cast out my ”disease” (Myopia). He then asked me to come closer and then with the tips of his fingers, pressed on my eyeballs – very hard – so hard that I could see all the colours of the rainbow and some stars too as he cursed the devil that was causing me bad eyesight to “COME OUT!! The venom in his voice was a little terrifying. He then released his fingers and shouted at me ” NOW WHAT DO YOU SEE!?!! DO YOU SEE ANYTHING????? ” Yes,” I said,” I see light” at which point the congregation erupted into “PRAISE GOD!” People started coming up to me to ask if it was true that I could now see ( as if I had been blind) It got to be quite irritating to have so many people come up to me and ask “So you can see now? .” Well I too enjoyed my brief moment of attention and fame and “Amazing Grace” as the one who was blind but now could see. Among the Igbos, Cornelius (which means horn) is COLLINS. Most of my Igbo friends called me Collins. To my Yoruba brothers I was Cornelius Adebayo (then Governor of Kwara State). Well how would you like to be introduced to Paulina, an Igbo lady, as “Collins, who actually used to be blind, like Blind Bartimaeus.”etc etc.? (She probably thought that I was looking at her as if I had never seen a woman before. Fact is that she was slightly out of focus even as I stared at her.(Reminds me of the Ray Charles Movie, “RAY”.Uncle Ray would have taken her by the hand….. I only put my glasses on after I left the tent. Wasn't it a good thing that I had saved my glasses from the preacher's destruction?
Healer-Preacher’s fame spread. People believed that he had just healed another Blind Bartimaeus.

| Having thought about this matter for an intense five minutes I have come to the conclusion that the Gambian president's healing spree is a prelude to the tentative floating of the idea of transforming the Gambia into the Islamic Republic of the Gambia. In order to achieve that his charismatic healing powers would have to be widely appreciated as part of the general baraka on the nation. |

Cornelius,
There is so much sense in your last postings I would advise anyone to re-read as many times as time permits. You have delivered an envelope full of what the whole episode is about. Your final portion is a conclusive conclusion to crown it all up. Until doomsday, the world will never run out of believers and non-believers or be-lie-vers.(I like that) Believe it or not a skeptic of AIDS once said he does not believe in AIDS. This fellow will never use condoms even with the most deadly encounter. He argued further that Malaria kills more than AIDS ( I do not know the stats) I am not sure if these things we believe or disbelieve are open to arguements. We still have number of people on this planet who believe it is their world and they worry least about the next world. A larger number than we know pretend about religion but in their silent moments they trust the reality of a wine glass than a 'thy kingdom' which will not be done on earth.
If we take a head count of true believers, the world will be shocked. How many people believe about global warming? How many people believe in atomic energy beyond the literature on how destructive it can be? To those who believe in Dr. Excellency Sir James Jammeh, he is everything he claims to be. Those who don't believe will wait to see the results as magic and traditional medicine combined by superman Jammeh makes Gambia King Midas Jammeh Golden Touch. From what others have written and by the look of photos, magic healer Jammeh had white gloves on to avoid contamination. Traditional healers normally use open hands to handle their patients. Will the plastic glove transmit the spirit? To those who believe, enjoy your confidence. To those who don't believe, keep your minds open for the big surprise. At end of it all, there will be bigger surprises. When the master's healer charms work, he will surprise Gambians and the scientic world. When the magical calls fail, there will still be surprises. As we read and write these lines, the world is still full of surprises.
Gambia's votes are just two days away. If this big news about Jammeh swings the votes in his favour ( which I be-lie-ve is one motive), there is still a score on his board. In every game of gamble, there are winners. |
