I agree that the very strong sense of predestination in Gambian society has a strong force to hold people back and make them accepting of their lot.

Wanting a better life for yourself or your family isnot a sin, as long as it is not achieved at someone elses expense.
Self improvement is part of the human condition.

I don't believe in GOD, but even if I did, he wouldnt be a puppetier and me a puppet! I think you can believe in GOD and have free will.

In my experience Gambian people are far TOO patient! Life is for seizing and making the most of. We need to be proactive in making our destiny.

Kons.,
are you on a masters or pHD thesis?

Lets do what my chemistry teacher used to call "experimental rabbits". Let Baldeh, Kondorong and Uncle Santangfara lead as flag bearers, and i am ready to follow soon afterwards.

another chemistry teacher used to make fun of this story, whcich might find some relation with the ongoing topic, thus:

A COMMANDER IN CHIEF-THE SPIDER

When it was time to go to war, the spider ordered an assembly of the whole army in the meeting hall. He stood on stage while an observation of "guard of honor" and said " it is time to go to war."

At that point, they all lend him their ears, and he continued "we have two options here."

Spider went on, "One you will all go and i will wait for you." , then a pause from spider as if deeply touched, and then continued " or two i will wait for you and all of you will go."

"There is no deity, but God" is the least that any human should be at.

When I took a glance at Dalton’s post ‘another eye opener’ and clicked the link ‘ peace, faith, love, hope – I thought then that Gambians in the Diaspora could organize themselves into paying a small amount monthly into a fund for the purpose of educating the children who have lost their parent or brother (in similar circumstances to that Ousman Koro Cessay & Dehyrda Hydara) who would normally have paid their school & medical fees. It could be in the memory of Deyda Hydara who gave opportunities to the young.

Dalton how about it through Gainako?

We pay three school fees and one is for child who lost their parent to the bullet in The Gambia – I look at that child with ‘hope’ and Daltons link above fitted it perfectly.
Of course there would be a substantial amount of funds build up that would have to be taken into consideration and put to positive use.

The world would be a poorer place if it was peopled by children whose parents risked nothing in the cause of social justice, for fear of personal loss. (Joe Slovo - African revolutionary)

I concur with KON that there are only three solutions to our problems. And these are education, education and education. It is called the education of the masses. Education is not only inportant to democracy and socioeconomic developemnt but vital. A country without an educated mass is like a man with no brain. How can a brainless man function? But the problem in Gambia is bigger than that. Our education system is so poor that paying fees for children in need wont help. Most Gambian teachers lack the basic qualifications to teach. the ones with the qualifications have been recruited by the private schools. so, education in gambia is now a class issue. If we should discuss all the basic problems of the Gambia today in the bantaba, the site will crash down. We dont have time for discussions. Action must be taken now!!

But to also these Mr -Miss philosophic them painting black in black day by day in this Bantaba.
Since you post up this I’ve read all the answer from the so called Expertise of the Bantaba –oppositions.
But the real answer is still sticking in some ones throat! Why not bringing it out? Come on you guys i/we expect more out from you
Since the way you stand in this cyber as opponent to our elected government.
Yes this yes that, you are right, we agree with you. Truly not enough!
Or is better that we all joined Sab and forget this bulla bulla here!

Gunner,I agree entirely with you & to the the previous postings. I was expecting such a reply. The WASSCE results this year where 25 students out of 3358 attained nine credits is an example. Nevertheless, the opportunity should still be available to attend school should your parent or those looking after you financially lose their life through circumstances as referred to by Kons.

Admire the street light's, but beneath them the interior is an appalling mess!
regards,

From your story of the spider above, i beg to inform you that i am not like this spider. I dont follow my troops i lead them into battle. I dont want to blow my own trumpet but be rest assured that i did my part and when i turned around everyone was gone.

I am proud that i have contributed to the education of many Gambians i have no blood relatonships with and today some of them have finished High School.

Like the French people say: "Petite a petit le choiseau fait son nit"

By the way i have no degree. I am still in school
