After a very emotional week of ups and downs regarding Gambia and my project i have come to an important decision...well two important decisons.
1. I have decided to continue helping the people I already help, but not to take on any big projects. The burden and worry is too much for me on my own. I have alot of personal things to sort out in England and need to concentrate on that for now.
2. I am going to buy the land at Gunjur and then gradually build a house there. This is a big step for me. It is very exciting and worrying all at the same time.
Long term I would like to spend more time in Gambia. I would like to help develop nursery education in villages. I would like to find sponsors for more individual children. I would like to help people start small businesses to make themselves independent and support their families.
I would also like to enjoy myself! Learn to speak Mandinka and Woolf, learn to cook African dishes etc.....
Spend time travelling the country and meeting the people at the ground level.
Walk on the beach, sit in the sun and relax with a good book......
Once I have my house at Gunjur anyone of bantaba is welcome to visit for an hour or so!! I can offer a cup of english tea, a glass of fruit juice or a nice cold beer...........and good conversation I hope !!!
All I need to do now is win the lottery!
If I did I would sort out my family and friends in uk and then build my own nursery school in Gambia......... I can dream..perhaps one day!!!! |

Well done, you have sorted out your "things to do" and have simplified your thoughts, I understand exactly where you are coming from but the fact still remains, an individual cannot help everyone, and sorry to say ,however much one would like to I suggest that when you start to build your house YOU ARE THERE,it is sometime very unwise to give money to people to buy cement timber and the other things that go to make a house, keep your money with you go and buy the materials with your builder or craftsman, you may well find that it is a good idea to employ a watchman to look afer your building materials as these sometimes disapear overnight! Good Luck and I will certainly come for a cuppa when I am in Gunjur. |
"Simple is good" & I strongly dislike politics. You cannot defend the indefensible.

I did investigate Taf houses but unfortunatly they were all sold before my funds became available. I am now actively looking to buy something but not in Senegambia. i am interested in something in Brufut or Sanyang. if anyone hears of something then let me know |

There is a set of empty plots being sold by AGIB. They are all leased plots on the aiport road just around TAF's estate in Yundum You might want to independently verify this. They are being sold for D175,000.00 cash or spread for a year and you pay D50,000.00 down. But this option is higher and will be around D210,000.00 if you use the one year option |

you were quick to answer, how do i find out more about this, i have had a quick look on the AGIB web sight but this is not mentioned. Presumably this is just to purchase the land then there's the cost of the building on top? |

Yes it is for the land. But atleast it is a leased plot free from a lot of hassle. |
