HI
I am considering buying land at gunjur, brufut is getting too expensive for me.
BUT I am very wary of who I can trust. Might end up not doing it at all. |

I am sure it can get to you, but I would still like to investigage it further, the property i have seen i think has been abandoned by the "toubab", someone suggested that he could have passed way and the family are dealing with it. i see quite a few houses like this just derelict, what a waste.

Alot of the properties that appear to be derelict are simply awaiting more funds for building to continue. The owners live and work abroad and when they come home once a year more work will be done on the building. The gambian ownwers of my rented property used the rent to start another compound, and when this years rent is due will continue with the building. |

If I buy land I will put a fence round it and then gradually build as I get the money.
My Gambian guide tells me that is normal in Gambia. People rarely have all the money up front.
So what you see as abandoned might just be works in progress...... |

Gambiabev, am indeed sorry that someone is tricking u. Nowadays, I dont even tust my own head. It's painful to be a victim. We Africans have been victims since centuries back. Our resources are being stolen by both our own people and outsiders. I thought one British lady once said in Bantaba that all British men are thieves and liars. Where in the world can one run to be free from theives and liars?
I come originally from the village of Banjul. The people that need my help are getting it. I cant help everyone.
Inez, thanks a lot, I dont want to be dragged into criminal deals. |

I was considering buying a taf property too. Several things changed my mind. My accountant advised to only invest abroad what you can afford to lose. I am not rich enough to be able to do that... Of course accountants are not known for risk taking! The political situation in Gambia is not that secure at the moment and I wonder what will happen after the elections? Also Brufut, which is close by, has been the location for a group of very violent murders of Ghanians.....and I wonder what is in store there in the future. Also taf properties are mainly owned by foreigners to Gambia and I dont want to live in some sort of expat isolation, I want to live amongst Gambians.(But with electricity and water!) The taf web site is very detailed and they respond quickly to emails. If you decide to go ahead you definately need to visit the site and I would suggest taking a Gambian along to negotiate for you. You will get a better price. I have decided to use all my money to buy my home in England and rent somewhere to live when I go to Gambia...at least for the forseeable future. Does anyone know good places to rent in the Kotu area? Or is Serrekunda the best place to rent? Apparently the taf properties are easy to rent out. They have a good location and good road access. I am not sure how Gambians feel about Brits being able to afford property that they cant? Angry? Annoyed? The Welsh and the Cornish arent very keen on us buying holiday homes, so why should Gambians be any different. As a socialist I find the whole thing about second homes and investment properties very difficult. I did seriously consider it, but backed out.....
i know i am as late as i don't know what, but what Ghanian murders. Gambia is getting scarier and scarier. i remember when i was eight, a little 10 years ago, and us kids where walking the streets at night, having fun, it seems too scary to do anymore.
if you were to move to serekunda, one day it would be so ironic and weird if we were to pass each other by chance and not even know it. |

I went to Albion school as a child, it was where I started schooling, thouh it was not where it is today. It's a pity that schools are finding it tough to defray their own projects. U seem to be involved in many projects, u must be very loaded.
Here is a story that might interest u. There is a Swede that used to travel a lot to Gambia. Down in Gambia, he introduced himself to some families, schools, etc, etc. All his contacts in Gambia were promised help of some sort from Sweden. Some do get what he was able to beg around here to travel down with. This very guy was released two years ago after a very long prison term, one of many. Some Gambians here know about him. Maybe this guy is now heading to other parts of the poor world. |

bamba i am not loaded, but have been speaking to people who have been approached by projects in gambia and ask my advice. the reason I asked about albion school as I mentioned it is someone else's project. If you had told that albion school was not under good governance i would advise the project to look elsewhere. the last thing I would want is for the goods to go to a bad place or person. i can only ask questions it is not for me to judge this person, but i did say i wuld get some information for them. they are based in Birmingham in the UK. if you are near the school perhaps you could help them. The problem is not this side. I have mentioned that before it is when it gets to Gambia the problem arises. if you wish I can give you an expample of what happens when we ship goods from Europe you would be surprised/ or perhaps not as i know you have heard many stories. Regarding my projects they have evolved after I made a few mistakes I realised that some families are greedy and some schools do not practice good governance. I decided to take it to the rural areas. Farafenni, Essau and Bulock, fingers crossed.

Bamba, explain to me: what part of the deal is criminal?? I did not steel the land from anybody. I worked hard to get the money for that. If somebody is trying to steel it from me is the a different story, but as I said before, I would never try to sell it to someone if there is something wrong. But I rather give the land to people fooling me than to sell it to you. |
