Please note that 1661 was the year when the British took the lands from the Coulanders(Latvians) although the british had been in the area earlier than the latvians in 1588 when Queen elizabeth I granted it to Devon and London merchants. By 1651 the courlanders came in and the the head of the administration was Henrich Fock(1651 to 1654)followed by Otto Stiel( 1654 to 1659), between 1659 to 1660 there was no fixed rule and between 1660 to 19th March 1661 Otto Stiel administerd for the second term). Thus ended both latvian and Dutch influence in the gambia.
From 1765 to 1779, Gambia was part of the colony of senegambia and from 1779 to 1783, we were part of French Senegal. from 1783 to 1815, it was not an administered territory. the second "invasion", which became permanent staterd in 1815 with alexander grant.
