.well done. the turbans in Brikama are religious fanatics. but your list is incomplete.
Maba included saloum/senegal as well, thats where he is buried. when he died his brother, Mamundary and his son Sait Matty continued his campaigns. Sait Matty died in Bakau fighting. his grave is right in the middle of Sunwing Hotel, now Sunbeach.
you omit Alfa Molloh (establish Fulladou, before i think it was Kantora + Europina), Musa Molloh (Fulladou + eastern Casamance)
other 'rebels' were Kelefa Sanneh (Niumi + Jokadu) |

The title of the posting is marabout rulers. So its open to addition. My list is not exhaustive. You see Baddibu extended into present day Senegal so i am not wrong. Talk to the Jammeh kunda peopel in Illiasa who are custodians of the rich history of Baddibu. The influence went as far as Kaolack which is part of the "old" saloum.
Rememeber the border was not officially demarcated until 1889 a year after berlin conference. Sait Matti died before the Berlin conference. You are right he is buried at Sunwing Hotel in Bakau.
According to legend, Alfa hosted omar Futiew and sheikh actually gave the name Musa to the family before he was conceived. It goes that whilst Alfa was away, the sheikh visited but was casual and the wife slaughterd a sheep for him and when Alfa came back the wife told him. Alfa was happy with the wife and the sheikh prayed they have a child. At the time they had none.
Musa's name preceded his birth.
I think it was Wuropana not Europina). There is a village that carries this name to this day in present day Niamina or there about. The GPTC buses i think have a stop there. Rememeber that Fulladu extened up to SOFA NAYAMA BRIDGE which borders CRD and LRD. Musa Molloh clashed with Foday Kaba Dumbuya there and the latter escaped. Musa tolf Foday: SIMI NANGIMA AA SOFAT. and Foday not being good in Fulani said: SIMI SOFI A NYAMAT.
Its gramamatically wrong to say NYAMAT because you dont eat urine but drink it. He should have said: SIMI SOFI A YARAT. So the bridge became SOFA NYAMA BRIDGE.
By the way check the topic under rulers in Fulladu. Alfa Mollo is mentioned there. |

Here are two more marabout rulers to the list: Foday Ebrima Kombo Sillah born 1830 in Gunjur died 1894.
Ma Lamin Demba Dibassi Drammeh more popularly known as Momodou Lamin Drammeh. A Jihadist but remembered for his resistance to French Penetration into Senegambian region and the rest of Western Sudan from 1885 to 1887 (Gidamaka, Jafounu, Gadiaga and other places like Bundu, Bambuk, Niani, Wuli, Sandu, Logo and Futa Toro) . He was defeated at the battle of Touba Kuta after the bloodiest battle with the French. Later killed by his enemies in the village of Kayai. In order to convince the French administrator about his death, his enemies traveled with the corpse through Koli Bolong and then to Kunting but as it were decaying; they cut off his head and took it to the French in Bundu.
The body was buried in Yona village and was kept as a secret until recent years due to the fact that many feared possible attack by the French for rendering help to the fugitive leader. |

Njucks, Sait Matty Bah is the son of Maba Diahu Bah. He was brought to bakau by his father so as to save him from the French. Sait Matty was not fighting whilst in the Gambia. I would suggest you ask the elders of Sika or Albreda in Numi. There were still tracisses of Maba and his soldiers when there were on their way to Bakau. This is between Sika and Albreda. Maba is known botyh in Saloum, Badibbu and Numi. |

Njucks, Kombo Sillah is well known in the Gambia. He and Ansumana from Old Yundum. It was him who wrote to the Queen Elisabeth when Bratain wanted to exchange Gambia with another profitable colony. Kombo Sillah was a king in the Kombos. I cannot remember very well. Another person we must remember is Mam Buna Bojang of Sukuta. Sukuta is totally forgottened here in the history. Most of the history I know is the unwritten one as a Jeli. We have most of the unwritten history(The real happenings). Have any of you seen the film "KEITA" from Mali? It is explaning all about the Jelis , and the story of Sundiata and Sumangru. I suggest we meet when I am in Gambia. Mostely with my Jeli families in Nema Nasir(Jeli Alhaji M'bye)or in Birkama with the Diabatés. |

Njuks i never said that Sait matti was fighting. I only listed him as a marabout ruler. Infact it was your own posting which said so. You said he died fighting in Bakau. |

We are all human and make mistakes. I also noticed an error on my side. Banjul was not bought from king of Nuimi but Kombo. Sorry for the error. I guess i was into many things at the same time. May be i should change my avatar to the key board again. |

Njucks, you are right. Foday Ebrima Sillah Touray was named after his father's teacher, friend and Marabout, Foday Ebrima Sillah of Pakau in Cassamance. Since there were many people in and around Pakau named after the Marabout, Foday Ebrima Sillah Touray came to be called Foday Ebrima Kombo Sillah to distinguish him from the others with the same name. His name was later shortened to Kombo Silla. So we are all talking about the same person. |

Thanks Momodou for the research. in Gunjur there are Janneh, Touray and Darboe. from these you have the imam, alkaliship and sefou.Gunjur is an old village from which many marabouts/scholars/clerics have come, passed through and lived. Omar Futio(Alh.Omar Taal), E.Silla, Bun Jeng etc
the thing is today many names will simply fade, because very few care to do the necessary research.
if you think Kombo Silla Drive is bad enough, take Mamadi Manjang Highway from Banjul. the real name of the highway is Mamadi Manyang Highway not Manjang. Mamadi Manjang doesnt/never existed!!!!!
the alkaliship of Jeswang is with the family from which Mamadi Manyang Ceesay came from. his surname was Ceesay and the Manyang was his mother's name as you put it to distinguish him.
you will find companies, incorporated bodies, government agencies giving their address as XXX Mamadi Manjang Highway?
