KONS, the reason i am interested in your political/economic ideology is because i wanted to know what your position is on the masses of poor elderly men , women and children in the gambia who are currently abandoned by the government apparently.Do you envision any kind of social program for the urban and rural poor ? What balance would you strike between business (elite) interests and the issues of poverty ?

Business cannot flourish without a high purchasing parity. Poverty is an enemy of business. Therefore , i believe in social programmes that will ensure a LIVING WAGE. I know what poverty means as i lived through it. That is why i hate all the meetings at five star hotels talking about poverty alleviation. I am against super normal profits. I believe in business with a human face.
Cost of food at one poverty meeting alone could pay school fees for one thousand students. Too many endless meetings and no action. At college, we were introduced to one Japanese CEO who used to conduct his board meetings with every one standing. There are no chairs in his conference room. He found out that meetings were very short and to the point and very effective.
With NAWEC in the doldrums, who would want to end a meeting in an air conditoned 5 star hotel.
Poverty meetings should be held in Yoro Bawol, and be given NYELENG as lunch and GENG as dinner. That way they will feel what the poor are going through. |

He is so brave that he reduce all those untouchable leaders like Saja Mboge down to Zero and the youths loved it. Remember how people always say if you stand against Saja Mboge you will be dead? Mbarodi broke that magic spell and it was great rebellion against the status Quo.
I also remember when we wanted to burn down Armitage during Jawara's visit in 1986/7, Mbarodi the then commissioner in Georgetown was the only one brave enought to come to campus and speak to the crowd. You will kill the man, but he will say what he wants to say and that is classic bravery. This is what Jammeh hate about him but can't win because he goes to jail and on his way out he throws insults at Jammeh again.
Sometimes, I think though, he is too arrogant for a small community like the Gambia. So yah, on the one hand he is my hero and on the other he can be very disruptive.
Mawdo i hope you were not involved in WAA's excesses in the run up to those elections. He was alledged to have give thugs to use whips on the opponents. In one incident i heard youths from Malikunda clashed with those from DKK and it was awful.WAA is synonymous wit violence not BRAVERY |

| It looks like every one drank the magic water. It just depends on which side you found yourself. I agree that WAA had whips in the run up to his campaigns. I never saw one but it was highly rumoured. |

Kons, I am so with you on your thread above.. this approach on meetings and who is served.
Meetings, they are not only often a big waste of time and nothing gets done, they foster an elite culture, of per diems, staying at four star hotels, car rentals goodies, etc and the people who are SUPPOSE to be serving their community, their constituency, whatevahs.. are so wrapped in themselves, their politics, their professional approach ...... and its everywhere you go.
I guess its big business but not to be sensitive to the poor and be serving the poor is hypocrisy. With the current state of the world, those of us in the over developed world need to go on "reality tours" in our own backyards and see the daily life of the people. If meetings could be a way of including the community to ORGANIZE.. then maybe maybe things will improve. |

| The Devil's Dictionary defines a committee as "A GROUP OF THE INCOMPETENT ASKED TO DO THE UNNECESSARY". A meeting certainly is not very far from this. |

The Devil's dictionary defines democracy as":
" IS A SYSTEM WHERE THE MAJORITY SURRENDERS ITS FATE TO AN INDIVIDUAL WHO BELIEVES THAT THE POOR MAJORITY ARE A NECESSARY FURNITURE OF THE EARTH, A SORT OF PERPETUAL GYMNASIUM WHERE THE RICH CAN PRACTICE VIRTUE WHEN THEY ARE SO INCLINED" |

The devils Dictionar defines a Politician as
An eel in the fundamental mud upon which the superstructure of organized society is reared. When we wriggle he mistakes the agitation of his tail for the trembling of the edifice. As compared with the statesman, he suffers the disadvantage of being alive. |
