What ever that ideology is, for as long as people can be free to be who they want to be without undue encroachment of the invisible hands of the bereaucracy, is fine with me.

The problem is in the gambia, we rather have some one fight our war for us. Too bad. We are all the mess together.

Kon, one can be confrontational and yet non violence. As you rightly said, we do not need another Siera Leone or Liberia. What we need is people who will speak up when things go wrong. People who will defend liberty, dignity and freedom of association.

We have seen over and over again, Halifa Sallah and the PDOIS speak when it is time to speak. They have even taken the initiative to take the government to court on constitutional violation. They have engaged in civic education from day one of their inception. Halifa and others have landed themselves in Jail several times because of what they wrote, speak or did. They have always been released with all charges drop because there are no basis. Going to jail did not stop them from speaking again and writing open letters to the President and challenging him. So we can safely discribe Halifa as confrontational in a peaceful way.

In short we shall never allow the government to create an situation where they will justify brutal actions against our people. Yes innocent citizens have regretably lost their lives. We condemed this brutal act in the strongest terms possible.

This is all the reason why we need to unite to change our government. This is why we are debating to unify the opposition to get rid of a system that is breeding all these violence against our people.

I strongly disagree with you that the least we can do is to get to the streets to demand justice. The situation in the Gambia is so tense, that it would not be wise to go that route. We do not have the kind of government that is going to guarantee the freedom of expression and association of our citizens. Therefore, advocating getting to the street is a recipe for a brutal regime to prey on our citizens like they did on our students. The way to change that is to rally behind a mechanism to change our government and institute a true democracy and social justice. This is the reason for the birth of NADD and the only way forward. Leaders who care more about their own safety at the expense of our citizenry are not fit to lead us period.

Bring it on. The radar is now on NADD. We have for too long been pointing fingers at APRC and UDP.

I think we should just forget about a unified coalition. Its too late. Lets plan for 2011 because APRC will win this time round.

That is my point KON. We had nine months to get to the table and discuss our differences. They walked away from everything and now they want a blanket amnesty. They want unconditional unity. This is a bunch of bull. excuse my tone and respect at all times to you brother.

NADD was born as a result of demand from the Gambian people to form a unified opposition. NADD does not belong to Halifa, OJ, WA or anybody else. It was a product of all the parties initiated by Gambians.

The pressure should be on UDP/NRP to concede or accept handing the elections over to Jammeh even before we go to the polls.

I have stated clearly that NADD is in for a lasting struggle. NADD is not a project and we shall continue to fight with credibility and mature confrontation. At the end of the day "Our feet will be tired, but our hearts and minds will be rested" Dr. King. The struggle continues and forget about six points pass to changing a government after dragging their feet for so long. Cowards die twice.
Peace.

Hey, I like Mbarodi. The man has guts and that is very rare in Gambia and that is why Jammeh is abusing us with impunity. If we had 50 Waa Juwaras, I can assure you that Jammeh would have been chased out of town.

Mbarodi is my energizer. I actually campaigned for him during his run for paliamentary elections in Niamina when he won his seat.

He is so brave that he reduce all those untouchable leaders like Saja Mboge down to Zero and the youths loved it. Remember how people always say if you stand against Saja Mboge you will be dead? Mbarodi broke that magic spell and it was great rebellion against the status Quo.

I also remember when we wanted to burn down Armitage during Jawara's visit in 1986/7, Mbarodi the then commissioner in Georgetown was the only one brave enought to come to campus and speak to the crowd. You will kill the man, but he will say what he wants to say and that is classic bravery. This is what Jammeh hate about him but can't win because he goes to jail and on his way out he throws insults at Jammeh again.

Sometimes, I think though, he is too arrogant for a small community like the Gambia. So yah, on the one hand he is my hero and on the other he can be very disruptive.
