This made my day President Jammeh is cheeky against president Sarkozy and gives him a history lesson. I find it very amusing.

People paying attention to Jammeh's pattern of political betrayal are beginning to add up that he braved his way to blast Sarkozy knowing that the French jolly timer president was on his way to defeat. Not just Sarko, but Jammeh openly parted company with some of his close political allies:

Gadaffi, Abdoulaye Wade, Baba Jobe, Amadenajad, Lang Tombong, Viktor Bout, Charles Taylor, Saddam (may be) Unlikely Jammeh ever made it to Britain's friendship list. Countless number of Gambians also broke with Jammeh by twist of betrayal.

Is this man a true friend ?

DAILY OBSERVER NEWS;

MAAFANTA.COM WITH D.A.JAWO COMMENTARY;

"Letter to the Editor

Once again, Gambians were no doubt quite embarrassed when they read in the media a response to a simple diplomatic letter sent to President Yahya Jammeh by his former French counterpart, Nicholas Sarkozy, on the occasion of The Gambia’s independence anniversary; when he completely deviated from the usual diplomatic niceties and instead responded with his usual anti-western rhetoric.

While protocol demands that such letters be responded to using diplomatic language, President Jammeh instead went on to remind President Sarkozy that his ancestors were colonialists who enslaved Africans. “Africa as a continent cannot be given lectures on democracy as we have to take up arms to liberate some of our countries from Colonial hegemony. How can the descendants of the same people whom we kicked out to gain our freedom; be today’s lecturers of Democracy to the Continent of Africa?”

However, when one reads the contents of the letter said to have been sent to him by President Sarkozy, it was quite hard for anyone to see anything in it that warranted such a harsh and undiplomatic response. In the letter, Sarkozy simply said; “Peace and Democracy are the legitimate aspirations of all nations and are improving on the Continent due to the convergent action of African, continental and regional organizations. France does support their interventions for the service rendered to the posterity and development of the peoples of Africa.

“It also follows up its action in favour of the promotion of Human Rights (my emphasis) all over the world,” which to the lay person, was quite straight forward and harmless and therefore did not deserve such a harsh response. It however simply shows that President Jammeh is obsessed with any mention of such words like democracy and human rights, which seem to be his administration’s Achilles’ heel. Otherwise, it is hard to imagine why he should respond with such harshness to a simple diplomatic letter.

I have absolutely no doubt that this is once again just another of the series of embarrassing situations that Gambians have regularly been subjected to by the utterances and comportments of our own head of state. These of course include him always being the odd man out whenever he is amongst his peers in the sub-region and beyond. For instance, we have seen that during such forums, his hands are always fully laden with such paraphernalia like a copy of the Quran, prayer beads and a dagger, making him the centre of attraction to both his counterparts and everyone else in attendance.

Also, some of his utterances, such as telling the whole world to ‘go to hell’ during his last interview with the BBC shortly after the presidential elections, as well as his penchant for awards and praises, are certainly some of the embarrassments that most Gambians always detest. We all wish that our head of state conforms to normal diplomatic protocol in both his utterances and physical comportment, at least to save us from such frequent embarrassments.

In fact even looking at the signature on Sarkozy’s letter and comparing it with that of Jammeh’s, one could not fail to decipher a great difference in personalities between the two. While Sarkozy simply signed as Nicholas Sarkozy, President Jammeh signed as Sheikh Professor Alhaji Dr Yahya AJJ Jammeh, instead of simply Yahya Jammeh. That itself is a statement of its own.
