Nice.

diaspora! Too many Chiefs and Very Few Indians.

Halifa Salah: PDOIS is however realistic. It is fully aware that the Gambian voters are yet to reach a level of political consciousness that they rely on to vote on the basis of Principles, policies and programmes and practices.

Personally, I would not like the idea of legitimizing prostitution and red light district, if society was 'very conservative' and this was not happening wide spread already. But I have been watching Gambian society for last 6 years and 'liberal values', 'pop culture' has spread so much. If this is becoming part of the society you have two options. One options try to reverse the trend and be more conservative, or, second option, continue liberal trend but at least control the sex business. I am not ideological, however, I am realistic and there are different solutions for different realities. If Gambia has chosen tourism as one of the major sector, first option will not work.

I'm not surprised that Moe liked this piece... his bedside drawer is full of horing tickets!

I kind of sense that Watchman is hating on pimps... how can you legalize a trade and harass the employers? Self-contradicting!

Why are you pretending as if Prince was not a regular at Monte Carlo. We ain't gonna tell nobody bro. Look as bad as this may sound PROSTITUTION has been and will always be legal in Gambia to a certain extent. Look at Latrikunda, The Senegambia Strip,Parts of Bakau every goddamn Bar on the Strip. Watchman has a point I might say not to mentions Turks Plea for legalization and controlled prostitution. Right now there is no control and it seems as if its getting worse by the day. There is nothing to reverse Turk it has and is culturally acceptable, It started off with Candles. One man One candle till its gone. Senegambia area if you aint talking 1000 you aint saying NOTHING. Just a quick disclaimer: I know absolutely nothing about all this , so I heard......................................................Peace

What you say about gigolos? I was surprised you did not refer them as they get the greatest market share when the business transaction is international. I am hoping you don't have the mentality of 'when women does it 'biatch', when men does it 'macho'.

Where do I start?!!!
SOME women would be prostitutes because they love having sex with strangers and risking their lives but I guess the majority do it for economic reasons.
Most women if they had enough money to provide for their children would not be prostitutes.
In Gambian culture men can have four wives, so why would you need prostitutes as well?
Prostitutes tend to be used by men away from home such as lorry drivers. These men carry diseases from one place to another, including HIV.
Also the tourist trade has a demand for prostitutes.
Personally I think that should be resisted. The money of these men erodes local culture and values.
It cheapens women.
Using a prostitute isnot something to be proud of. In your home country or on holiday. I am a feminist and I would like a world where all women feel empowered to be free.

god dang you guys are killing me! Prince, the pimps will become the "security personnel" and "personal assistants" to the prostitutes of the industry once it becomes legalized.

Turk, you are very right, gigolos could make a killing once the flood gates are open. Let me do some more "market research" on the matter.

Gambia Bev, I am very pro-women's rights and it is the chauvinism of the men that abuse sex workers that moved me to propose the lesser of 2 evils.

Moe, how many "loitering" tickets did you accumulate again?

Greetings Everyone

There's a lucrative sex industry in Gambia, which isn't a complete surprise it goes hand in hand with Tourism, and sex trafficking all the way up to North Africa through the back way and all the way to Europe. Needless to say Prositutes need to be protected from their Pimps. It's the murky businesss of supply and demand; right now demand is fuelling the supply just today Nigerian Child Prostitutes were unable to be returned home to the ineffectiveness of the Malian Authorities. Pimps are sterotypically men but women are also involved in the trade. There are still ethical dilemmas involved on whether legalizing Prostitution will give Prostitutes better working conditions or will sex trade just continue to increase in volume? And send out an immoral message to society and the Youth in particular. Or should it prohibited and continue to place in jeopardythe lives of vulnerable girls, women, boys and men being forced into Sexual Slavery through Sex Trafficking.

As Prostitution is a reality of life and isn't going anywhere soon I would think that the best option is to regulate it to ensure that Prostitutes are educated on the importance of having Safe sex. That the profit is taken away from Pimps through heavy taxation, tighter laws are put in place for sex with minors, and more heat is placed on their touts.

Hi Moe and Watchman those loitering tickets of yours are due to increase make sure your strapped up Guys!

Peace
