No Change there then, everybody is still hungry, conveyor belt broken,Oh dear we will have to get more porters ! "hand search" by customs, yep... everybody hungry "Hopefully these taxes will be used to mend the conveyor belt," we can all live in hope

Just got back from two week stay to find the tax being implemented. Yet more queues! Conveyor belt wasn't working so everybody having to drag luggage into one small room for them to be hand-searched and yet more hassle for cigarettes and anything 'custom officers'could find! Hopefully these taxes will be used to mend the conveyor belt, stop the ever increasing wait in the check-in area and provide clean towels in the toilets! Very disappointing for first-time visitors and not encouraging for the tourism industry.

You got that right I suspect that MAYBE this rumor was started by the tourist industry as the financial crunch bites harder less people will go to the Gambia and will think twice considering that there is a £5 entrance fee and a 20 Euro departure tax !

Affirmative the Gambian Airport Development tax came into operation on 1/11/10. It cost £17 to leave the airport or 850D. When I left the electriticians were busy fixing the lights in the Airport.

Hi Jambo the weather was a fabulous 36C up country. As far as I'm aware the Departure Tax will be included on the price of tickets after 01/12/10. However if you've booked before this date you need to hold back the fee otherwise departure could be delayed so to avoid this make sure you budget for the depature tax. The introduction of this tax seems to of coincided with the Departure Tax levied onto British Tourists leaving the UK. So it seems Uk travellers will be hit with a double whammy. On my arrival at Banjul the lights were so dim that I couldn't see properly in the airport and the microphones were so muffled. After leaving the airport three weeks later the electricians were busy working in the airport.
Peace

Ive just heard from a friend who is going to TG mid January and has received his paperwork from Gambia Experience with the departure tax included so it looks like this clumsy way of collecting it is coming to an end |
