What's up with Gambians and worthless bogus degrees? I recently spoke to government worker who insisted that I address him with the title "Dr.," knowing for sure he never attended any recognized university. Why is everyone obsessed with titles, which are clearly less valuable than the papers they are printed on?

A typical example of these pseudo-intellectuals is "Dr." Seedy Drammeh of the Gambia Revenue Authority (http://tinyurl.com/2aetjx8). Mr. Drammeh, who obliviously bought his "doctorate" from the dubious BELFORD UNIVERSITY, will now insist on being called "Dr."

How can a sensible person pay only $250 for a doctorate degree?

hehe, i'd not mind having loads of honorary degrees to flaunt around town. however, i'd prefer "honors" from universities with actual classrooms. Some of these papers are really cheap.

Couldn't agree more. Pathetic isn't it? They haven't passed the necessary examinations etc yet they insist on being called ridiculous titles just to fuel their egos. No time for them whatsoever.

The Seedy Drammeh I know, who hails from Sikunda, a childhood friend of mind and a former roommate of mine in London, UK has a Diploma from City Banking College with accreditation from Leicester University. This is truly embarrassing!

I am the only Ginnackian here.

diaspora! Too many Chiefs and Very Few Indians.

Halifa Salah: PDOIS is however realistic. It is fully aware that the Gambian voters are yet to reach a level of political consciousness that they rely on to vote on the basis of Principles, policies and programmes and practices.
