Within a short time I have, by one particular member of this Bantaba, been called ignorant, racist and now alcoholic. This i a criminal act called libel, something one could be prosecuted for. I donīt intend to just accept it and keep quiet. To lock the topic is not enough, I demand an open apology. Otherwise, I have to further, and believe me, I know what to do.

I Kiwi, just cool down and move on. I think I will invite both of you to a cup of coffee at Gamla stand when I come over to Stockholm this summer where we can have serious talk. You wouldn't have all those multi cultural connections if you were a racist. Someone calling you a racist does not make you a racist either. |

I have warned people before that what they say is libel if they name someone and make it personal. This law applies to any written word. You need to be careful what you are saying. They once accused a totally innocent person of belonging to a sect. I hope they are rich and can afford to pay the damages in court!
Sometimes it goes beyond a bit of banter and fun, someones character is called into question in a most personal way. That is not what bantaba should be about. |

I have been called names but the good thing is once i am convinced that i am not, then it does not matter.
Some are good at feeling pulses and increasing the blood pressure around. Dont fall victim to this style. Unfortunately i have not been to Sweden to recommend something. However, why not take your volvo out and enjoy the outdoors. (laugh) |
When I despair, I remember that all through history the way of truth and love have always won. There have been tyrants and murderers, and for a time, they can seem invincible, but in the end, they always fall. Think of it--always. |

Perhaps warning people and then banning them for a few days????? A bit like the 'sin bin' in sports???? The heat needs taking out of it. |

When someone wants to go and report to the police about libel, first of all: how can it be libel against your person and name if your name or adress is not written on the forum? Nobody knows who you are, we are Kiwi01 and Babylon here. Will you go to the police and say you are Kiwi01? I mean... I donīt know about England, but here in Sweden the police donīt take these kind of matters seriously. Here you need proof for everything. Otherwise itīs words against words and youīre set free. Unfortunately. |

If it is spoken word against spoken word that is difficult to prove........but here it is WRITTEN..that is the key difference.
We should only write what we can support in evidence or make general statements not personal attacks.
We need to treat the written word on bantaba the same as writing a letter or perhaps a better example is like writing a newspaper article. It is in the public domain.
Bamba accuses people of all sorts of things with impunity. Perhaps the weight of the law should come down on someone who constantly accuses others in print. |

But to write that Kiwi01 is an alcoholic and racist isnīt as serious as if Bamba would have written her real name. It is when someones name and person is dragged in the dirt when itīs libel, not ones alias on the net, Or? Correct me if Iīm wrong. Another point; using someones name (so that everyone can know who he/she is) without that persons approval is libel, although you may not write bad things about that person. Isnīt it? |

No..you can write what you like as long as you can prove it is true! That is the freedom of the press in a democracy..the issue is whether it is true or not, or rather whether you an prove it!
In the list of members we all have a profile, so we are only one step away from knowing about the person and Bantaba stores all the details of registration I presume.....so the alias is only a thin disguise.
I dont think the alias argument should be used as an excuse to abuse people.
Basically I dont think you should say things that you wouldnt say face to face or that you wouldnt want to be recorded in writing and repeated in public. If we all adhere to that high standard the level of debate will be better and it will get less personal. |

there is no legal case here. Bamba himself has been called a racist!!! perhaps you should all be in the same court room and sue each other, infact under what Law (danish, British, Gambian ??)
for all we know Bamba could be White( )
no one should be punished for expressing their views. thats why we have a bantaba. its a free society.
WE CAN HOWEVER RECOMMEND BANTABA ETIQUETTES FOR EVERYONE BLUE OR YELLOW.

I know that itīs possible to trace computers and things like that. But then itīs hard to prove wether it was that single person who wrote those silly things, the accused one may say it was his friend or something. The truth is that very few that are reported for libel are prosecuted. When you turn to the police they often say bye before you say hi because you basicly have no good evidence. If you have some evidence that is usually not enough to prosecute someone. They will write the report and then lay it down and forget about it. This is how it works here. I donīt know if you know about Swedish policework or Swedish laws, but here they are extremly lame. In Sweden you will easily get away with murder even. |
