Has anyone been to Badala recently? I've just returned after a 3 week stay there (1 week extra because of the volcano)!!! I was one of Badalas biggest fans. Yes it was basic, but it was clean, lively and had great staff. But NOW...Oh my Goodness it was a nightmare!!!!

There is now no entertainment day or night, this maybe due to all the entertainment staff getting married, as i think Gambia Bev once mentioned. Also the place is filthy and the cleaners were complaining of having no bleach, washing powder, cloths or brushes and asked if the manager expected them to clean with their hands. The pool guy also said there were no chemicals for the pool which did look slightly green!!

One night i woke at 3am to a rustling sound and found a huge rat sat on my bedside cabinet in the room!!!! I went to reception to change room and not a soul was about, no security guards..nothing!! At reception there were 3 staff who were all fast alseep under blankets on the sofas in reception,it took ages to wake them.

If the electric went off during the day the generator wasn't used, to save money. One day i had ice cream at the pool and it was melted but i thought it was just because it was hot in the kitchen and even after 5 mins it would melt. I only had 2 spoonfuls and when the waiter noticed i hadn't eaten it he told me there had been no electric since 9am and the freezer was warm...it was 3pm when i got the ice cream!! I have now had food poisoning since Friday the day i ate the ice cream!!! I had a horrendous flight home because of it, have not been able to return to work and have been in agony!!

Thomas Cook paid for all our food the delayed week, but Badalas manager told me he wasn't buying any food because he had no money. So many nights there was very little to eat. When we did order it took over 2hrs to come because some one ran to a local shack shop and bought the ingredients due to the kitchen harldy having any food. We also had £100 and an ipod stolen out of our room by the cleaner and many other tourists had things stolen. All the manager said was 'things like that don't happen at Badala'!! When i told him it had happened to others he said if people don't like it they should stay somewhere else. He spent most days laid on the sofa in reception watching TV. Does anyone know why this place has gone down hill so much in just 5 months?????

That was a terrible experience and definitely not a good PR for Badala Park hotel and Lie Mboge whom I suppose is the owner.

I made comments about this hotel when i stayed there on my last trip.
1 it is supported by thomas cook (reputably) not a good sign for them.
read back on the posting. this hotel is know for its bad treatment. a friend of mine went there years ago and loved it. Very basic but great fun.
Now it is the flea pit, no staff wages are paid, lots of bumster types are allowed in the hotel near the pool, or sitting on the wall.
My room was flea ridden, sheets dirty, i changed the room and made a complaint deaf ear.
if this is the first time to gambia, you do not go back to that hotel.
as long as tour operators support it, AND THEY do, read the notice board it stays open.

but the biggest culprit is the gambia tourism board who are aware of this and allow it to happen.
it is not fair on the staff and not a good image for GAMBIA.

Jambo i think that if tourists go to Badala and it is their first time this is the impression they would get of Gambia and would probably not return to the country again. I've been going to Badala for years and loved it but now there is nothing to love. You are right about the staff not getting paid, that is what i heard when i was there, so no wonder people are stealing..but still thats no excuse. I will NEVER stay there again.
