Giant donation for University of Copenhagen 22. mar. 2010 10.55
A giant donation of DKK 885 million from the Novo Nordisk Foundation to the University of Copenhagen is intended to make Copenhagen a focal point for international research into life style diseases.
Novo Nordisk has made a lot of money selling medication to diabetes patients. Now, some of that money will go towards research into how life style diseases such as type 2 diabetes may be prevented.
Largest donation ever for Danish university This fall, the University of Copenhagen will establish a new international research centre for metabolic disorders - The Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Basic Metabolic Research - at the Faculty of Health Sciences. The centre will be backed by the new donation, which is the largest private research donation in Danish history.
According to the University of Copenhagen, the centre will have the strength and resources to establish itself in the international elite. The funds from the Novo Nordisk Foundation will, among other purposes, go towards headhunting five highly qualified groups of researchers.
Located in Copenhagen, the centre is intended to collaborate closely with other research teams in the region, as well as with top researchers from leading universities across the globe, in the US, Europe, and China.
- This munificent donation will make Copenhagen a global magnet for metabolic research, says dean Ulla Wewer from the Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Copenhagen.
The donation will be presented Monday at 10 a.m. in the Lundsgaard auditorium at the Faculty of Health Sciences in Copenhagen.
