| Yes. Just like British citizenship. Merely being born there is not important. Your parents must be or one of your grand parents. The essence here is a strong tie to the country. |

the system, its the same as the belgian or other democratic systems just that there is no compulsory voting.
Well Njucks,
I thing you exagerate a bit in saying our system is similar to the African voting systems. I see BIG differences, but the main difference is probably that we don't change the rules when the game has started.
I refer to the date of elections and the changing of the periods of registration... I think that's a big problem

wow, that's strange, so if you're born there but your parents were not born there that means basically that you are an illegal citizen! |

Jede
what i was talking about is in absolute terms. the democratic concept is the same in The Gambia/Senegal/South Africa etc and Europe.
whether its compulsory, terms limits, length of terms, registration processes, free press etc are just variances in how its practiced but the concept is the same. this reflects a degree in democratic maturity. thats was my point.
for example in the UK there is no term limit, in continental europe there is. it doesnt make the UK any less democratic. term limits are on the other hand a big issues in Africa. just as your system is compulsory and others not. |

Yes kassma, it sure does make you an alien if you were born in Britain after 1983, you are considered a citizen of where your parents were born. This was one of Margaret Thatchers' ideas to curb immigration in the UK.

| this might be controversial, but whatever, but honestly i feel like european countries and america don't have any right in restricting foreigners from entering their land. cause when you think about it, its only the foreigners for the countries they've messed up that try to go there to improve their lives. and when i say messed up, its not only from slavery, but also policies that have also screwed up people's countries. |

Kassma,
I dont agree with you. The main influx of foreigners in Western Europa these days are now from Russia, Oekraine and the former states within the USSR, Roemenia, the former Yougoslavia, Albanie, and so on.
You blame Western europe for the bad ecomic situation in the former states under influence of communism too or for colonial behaviour in these states ?

Jede you are right. I went to the seaside in North Yorkshire on Saturday. There were mainly white families, a few asians and a few black families. The majority of the imigrants there were polish. Everywhere you could hear their language. It is a major change. They are doing all the jobs that noone British wants.
By the way, your real name is a girls name in uk! |

Yeah I know Bev, thats why I use a nickname. But even the nickname sounds feminine
Can change it in DJ, but then everyone will think I'm in the music business...
By the way BANTABA MEMBERS don't you ever check the profiles of the members you are chatting with ? |
