Bafuloto And FaratoLand Dispute At Kombo South District Tribunal By Abubacarr Saidykhan 05-02-10
The long standing court case between residents of Bafuloto and Farato South over an issue of land began at the District Tribunal at Gunjur village presided over by the present Chief (Seyfo) Sheriffo Janneh.
This reporter is told that the land case between the parties has been dragging before the same Disrict tribunal presided over by many previous chiefs for over a period of 7-8 years without any conclusion. The clerk announced the commencement of the case by calling Ebrima Saidy of Farato South, one of the plaintiffs claiming for a plot of land from the people of Bafuloto. Mr. Saidy produced three witnesses to support his claim. The three witnesses were Ansumana Darboe, Karamba Sabally and Karamo Saidy The defendant, Lamin Jobe, was asked whether the land that is being claimed by Ebrima Saidy, the plaintiff, is his. He replied in the positive. He was asked to call his witnesses to support his case, which he did. He called one Papa Sanneh who was called by the clerk and asked whether he would serve as a witness to testify on behalf of Ebrima Saidy. He agreed to be the witness of the defendant. At this juncture, the chief adjourned the case to 10 February for continuation of hearing. Another case was called involving Karamba Sabally of Farato South against Bunja Sarr of Bafuloto over a piece of land . Both parties produced witnesses to support their case. The chief gave an injunction that none of the parties should go on to develop the land in dispute until the district tribunal takes a decision. This case was followed by another involving Ansumana Darboe, a young man who also claimed ownership of a plot of land. He produced four witnesses namely; Karamo Saidy, Mankou Saidy, Karamba Sabally and Foday Dahaba, all of Bafuloto. Abdousalam Savage, the defendant living in Busumbala also produced two witnesses, lawyer Bittaye and one Malang Danso. Malang Danso, after being called to explain whether he knew anything regarding the land crisis between the two, replied that he is just a masoner who was given a contract to build a house at the defendant’s compound. According to the information gathered by this reporter many compounds are currently in dispute between Bafuloto and Farato.
