Good to see you post here again Anna,I suspect that you are just like me, you cannot keep away from bantaba in cyberspace, dispite vastly divergent views expressed on everything, some of which defy explaination! This posting by Lily has been very useful,(to me at least) those who have posted here have given their OWN truthful views, something that dosn't always happen, this helps understanding between posters on bantaba. My own opinion others may disagree,(and probably will) |

Kay,I once again totally agree with Anna when she writes; "Snub Kay?? NO! Be sure that, even though i am not contributing i am still always, every day, reading! And every day impressed by all the sensible things you write even though you 'are not an attorney, not an economist, not a politician'. Makes me wonder sometimes 'what, then, are you' "

2bab,
I like Lily's thread, "Is Everyone welcome?"
If for anything, the same way she spoke for you, she might have spoken for tens of others who couldn't hold onto their heart veins, and say it as they sensed it.
Good seeing you too join the debate Anna.
Anyways, ladies & gents, have a joyous Dr. King's day.

I think i get Lilys point, Itīs not that welcoming to reply on topics, itīs a bit scary too sometimes since the topics I enjoy almost always end up in "westernes" contra africans/muslims and so on. It doesnīt make sence with so much hatery, we all are human being and real people in the Gambia are so nice and friendly, what happen to people when using internet? Itīs easy to be attacted, insulted or ignored here, and yes im sensitive, but I rather stay that way and stay away from here. |

Inez, Thanks for taking the trouble to post again,I think that the perception of some posters is that their strongly held views on topics are not capapble of discussion any discussion by those who happen to hold views that differ from the posters are treated as insulting, how do you cope with that perception? I do not know, I know of at least one poster who gave up posting here and discribed making a posting ,"like walking on eggshells" I don't think its anything to do with the "culture " thing I feel its the personality of the posters themselves. There appears to be an inbuilt rule that many regular posters adopt and that is do not join in discussions in which foreigners (ie non Africans)start a posting on.

Toubab, simple is good...could you please translate your sentense; "the perception of some posters...how do you cope with that perception?" :) I just simply feel that non gambians should not have any opinions here at all so I think I will just continue reading and discuss with my husband, we are still on honeymoon so it works out fine, he never argue with me :-) |

Sorry Inez, try this,
The way some posters think, strongly held views that cannot be argued with, others of different opinions are insulting your views.
It maybe that the posters here are mainly concerned with the "two major" topics on Bantaba in Cyberspace,as they all live away from The Gambia they are not familiar with local problems, "foreigners" who visit Gambia most likly have more recent knowlege than some regular posters here.I very much doubt if we will get any input from those who disagree with what you and I have said.

I believe that the atmosphere in Bantaba has become toxic over time. Alliances have been built, and people have become more issue focus. Its unfortunate, but thats the way the chips have fallen... |

Well, toxic atmosphere? why? building Alliances, what on earth has that got to do with a specialised chat site about Gambia? "issue focus" it appears to me that you are writing about Gambian opposition politics and the Muslim religion, you side with Inez in saying that foreigners are not welcome here, is that right, what is YOUR OWN personal view ?

I think we all have a common interest - Gambia and its people. We all come from different perspectives, backgounds, political affiliations and so on - but our common iterest should bind us - not drive us apart. I would like to learn so much more about Gambian politics but it is hard to post on that forum sometimes (though it doesn't always stop me!)
Stay with us Inez! |

Lily,I dislike all politics but the availability of policies within Gambian Politics made me really upset, how can you have a party elected to power if you have no polices? that is beyond my understanding, all the words churned out by Gambian politicans are just complicated words that are unable to be understood execpt by very learned acedimics, ordinary people no chance, such language I suppose is designed to have heads nodding all round wisely even those who are listning havn't understood most of what has been said.

How right you are. How the party was elected to power is a mystery to me - although each ordinary person was persuaded to cast their vote ........ |
