UDP Campaign Manager Charged
 Mr. Femi Peters, the Campaign Manager of the opposition United Democratic Party (UDP) was yesterday arraigned at the Banjul Magistrates' Court.
When the case was called, Mr. Peters told the court that he would want to consult with his lawyer on the matter before taking his plea.
When contacted the Police Crime Management Coordinator (CMC), Commissioner Yankuba Sonko, revealed that Mr. Peters was charged with "control of procession" and "control of loudspeaker.?
The prosecutors in the case, Inspector Fadera and Cadet Inspector Sanyang objected to Mr. Peters' assertion on the grounds that the case was just for mention and so it has nothing to do with a Counsel.
At that juncture, the presiding magistrate, Emmanuel Nkea, intervened by saying that the accused has the right not to take his plea without consulting his Counsel.
He noted that it could be another issue if he takes his plea today and the Counsel come the next day and object to the charges.
He said to be on the safe side the case has to be adjourned to enable the accused consult with his lawyer on the matter.
The case was adjourned to Wednesday 28th October 2009 for mention.
