Flood Displaces Over Hundred
Alex Darboe

Over fifteen compounds in Brikama Jambarr Sanneh are being affected by floods. The flooding which is currently increasing has displaced over one hundred people (100) most of whom are women and children.

The displaced victims are being evacuated to TAWFIQ ISLAMIC and Brikama Methodist Nursery and Primary School and other places.

The Governor for Western Region Mr. Lamin Sanneh together with some members of the Regional Disaster Management Committee embarked on an emergency assessment exercise of the area recently where they were taken on a conducted tour of the affected areas.

The flooding of water according to the victims, is caused by blockage of the waterways and lack of access ways of drainage system in the area. They further blamed the blockage on poor construction of the road.

Shortly after the tour, Governor Sanneh expressed his sympathy to the affected families. He appealed for urgent assistance in cash or kind to the victims noting that they in a terrible condition. He advised the victims not to use their houses which may be dangerous for one to shelter in at the moment.

The Chief Executive Officer of Brikama Area Council Momodou Jallow, Chairman Sunkary Badjie, Vice Chairman Lamin Haja Bojang who also doubled as the Ward Councilor for the area all expressed deep concern over the disaster and called on the victims to be patient before help will reach them. They said efforts are being made to return the lives of the victims to normality.

Meanwhile, residents of Brikama have described the last Monday’s flood as one of the worst flood in the town’s history calling on the relevant authorities to intervene in order to avoid any future occurrence.

How about $50,000 or D700,000 Dalasis to these victims at the President's backyard? Are Taiwanese people more human than Gambians? What about all those floaded in North Bank?

Gambian tax payer resources are being used to buy political capital and to enrich the one time poor soldier cum millionaire.. Hoi Deesann sumayaram dawnah...(Lord of mercy I feel for the victims).

May the lord provide support to the suffering families.

The day of accountability is nearing...

Nokia man, hope is good but not enough unfortunately. We got to walk the walk and do whatever we can to hold Jammeh and group accountable.

We have seen greatest leaders come and go but at the same times we have seen the worst leaders especially in Africa crumble like melting ice. Jammeh is no different... we shall sit here and discuss his demise and it won't be too long. History repeats itself..

Where is Charles Taylor, Joseph Momo, Abacha, Mobutu, and most recently Neno Viaria of Guinea Bissau? Yahya is not immortal. The decision is in his hands... be on the right side of history or go down with an ugly legacy...

Accountability is must... guaranteed.

That was very child like, and this is how you hold jammeh accountable,This is the very reason foreigners come and laugh at Gambians and have the opportunity to ridicule them whilst you think it make you look tight ,take a good look at your over grown self.
