Ha anyone else had a problem contacting The Gambia since 25th of this month? I have tried many times last night,to a landline and a mobile both with hardwire phone and Voip each time nothing,is it just me?
UPDATE just realised that my phone provider is Onetel and my ISP is onetel so maybe as they have been taken over by Talk Talk Onetels carriers for international calls maybe trying to get a new deal together with the new management of Onetel, and have pulled the plug on the old deal, hence no result on the phone.

I agree, it has been very difficult to come through, especially using phone card. Better in the mornings. |

I have been phoning my man's mobile for the last 6 weeks and only had trouble twice but that was 3 weeks ago.

Think it's just me (or my boyfriend's network coverage) but I've been having problems with both my landline and mobile since February. I've now completely given up and rely instead on text messages (which only occasionally get snarled up) and air mail (don't get me started). |

I got two texts yesterday (8th) - they had been sent on the 6th. Good job it wasn't anything important.

It was impossible to get any connection yesterday from Belgium neither. Tried house telephone, mobiles (gamcel and africel) but none of them were working.
Strange because sms seem to be delivered. |

Hi, I got information that there is some kind of system upgrade going on. One can sometimes get through if you keep on trying. |

Gamcel has problems (with the upgrade, as Momodou said); I heard they apologized already. From Germany you only get a line with Telekom, which is terribly expensive . I don't know if the prepaid cards work. |

Indeed its tough getting into the Gambia. Information reaching me has it that Gamtel is working on improving its network/traffic. To be specific it has to do wit its external calls billing systems. |

Oh no! This could mean that for Germany only rip-off-Telekom will supply a line to Gambia. If this should happen, I'd complain at our Anti-Trust-Commission |

As far as I'm aware Gambia has not paid for its satelite connections and therefore operates its telephone communication operating by discs. This is why telephone communication shuts down because it can't cope with excessive traffic. Whatever the reasons the service is substandard.
