I am sorry guys but this a true story about myself. When I passed the common entrance examinations I started schooling in Banjul. One day after school I found my aunt cooking some food in the kitchen and I asked her what she was cooking for lunch. She replied that it was sipa sipa. I never heard of that dish but meekly smiled and went to undress. I asked my room mate what sipa sipa was and the reason for that is this; a skirt in wollof is called sipa. I wondered why or how anybody could be cooking a skirt for lunch. He laughed and told me that it was seafood . I went outside and my aunt scooped some of the said sipa sipa and gave them to me to taste. I took them in my right hand and walked away to have a closer look at what I was given. They were like some white insects/or worms that we see whenever we dig our backyard during summer and I simply dumped them in the bin. To me they were worms period. My mate saw me and told the aunt about this so she called me and offered me more, again I grabbed them but this time she insisted that I eat them in her presence, I stood there squirming and feeling really sick. That was the time she told me that these were shrimps caught by fishermen and that they were delicacies. I told her what I thought they were and this caused a lot of laughter .Later on we had a meal of it with salads and oh my god! they were so sweet.

Kaani

That was a good one. Shripms are rarely found upriver and the last time i checked, they are not available beyong Foni Bintang.
