A police officer stood in the witness box to adduce evidence about an accident which he investigated. He narrated his evidence thus
"Your worship I received information about an accident and on arrival saw a car and bicycle was involved. The car and bicycle were injured and the cyclist was damaged as a result of the accident sir!"
"What!" cried the magistrate " you mean to tell me that the car was injured and that the bicycle too was injured ? eh!"
The officer replied " yes your worship that is what I saw and that is what I am here to tell this court"
The audience in the courtroom could not help laughing out so loudly that the magistrate stormed out of the courtroom, as he could not continue with the case because of the uproar. I sneaked away before he comes back and gets us arrested for contempt of court.
These things happen,I feel a little sorry for the Police officer, although his words were incorrectly used if you think about it the meaning was the same.I think the Magistrate was showing some compassion for the Police officer by not embarrising him in front of the public,he also went outside to have a chuckle!
"Simple is good" & I strongly dislike politics. You cannot defend the indefensible.
