A LOVE STORY: Little Bintou nyinyaa engulfed

It was one of those African (Gambian) nights, when the smiley moon and the stars were out in full beams, providing light all over-walking and seeing the shadow formed on the ground. It was hardly a cloud to cover the moon and the stars, and when ever such a night occurred, the boys and the girls went out to play games. The game called “hide and see” is one to be well remembered by those that know what it means.

This is the way that the game goes: First, there have to be a bright night, with the support of the moon and the stars. Then, the boys and girls meet, and divide themselves into two groups, composing of both sexes. There have to be a forehead prostration spot, agreed by both parties. The first group will go into hiding, while the second group will go look for them, and their main focus will be only to trace them before they prostrate at the chosen spot called “nyareh”. Then, the other group too takes a turn. The counts are normally the number of Nyarehs (forehead prostrations) at the chosen spot. For example, a nyareh is not scored when the opposite party touches you before you do the prostration.

Of course, those nights were well anticipated by some of the boys, who have certain favorites of girls they wanted to group with.

Bintou, a little daughter of the village alkaloo, age 18, was a fine admiration to the entire group. At the time of grouping, there was always little push and pull, as to who will be grouped with Bintou Nyinyaa. Bintou is also very well aware of this, but she also has a favorite. I remember in one instance, where Zavier got into a fight with Lilboy, arguing as to who will go out with Bintou. But Sorri, another friend to both Zavier and Lilboy got a plan, and that is Bintou nyinyaa must be with him the next time there is an outing.

To be continued soon…

Dalto1

You are taking me back memory lane. Those were the innocent days that will never come back. I am now beginnig to see how far i have come. Please bring it on.

When I despair, I remember that all through history the way of truth and love have always won. There have been tyrants and murderers, and for a time, they can seem invincible, but in the end, they always fall. Think of it--always.

To the many that showed interest in the love story captioned "Little Bintou Nyinyaa engulfed", here is the continuation of part 1 and 2 combined, cos i couldn't edit part one due to administrative restrictions. I am sorry for any memories that it brought some of you, because those nice days will never come with responsibility, age and family all around you all. You can't hide and see no more.

First, there have to be a bright night, with the support of the moon and the stars. Then, the boys and girls meet, and divide themselves into two groups, composing of both sexes. There has to be a forehead prostration spot, agreed by both parties.

Bintou is very well aware of this, but she also has a favorite. I remember in one instance, where Zavier got into a fight with Lilboy, arguing as to who will go out with Bintou. But Sorri, another friend to both Zavier and Lilboy got a plan, and that is Bintou nyinyaa must be with him the next time of an outing. I being the youngest of the boys, age mate to Bintou, couldn’t see any one more fitting to me on earth like Bintou. In my view, it was just a matter of knowing tricks to claim back Bintou from Zavier-the idio t, who often was a girls’ spoiler.

Part2

Bintou was of bliss made, apart from her lineage class of leadership dynasty, she was the kind of slim, tall, and smiley girl. On her waist was an echoing traditional wear-beads called the ‘jalijali-chekesh’, such was the sound that let Sorri wanting to be grouped with her. Her black, long curly hair was often given a traditional braiding, with sea shells and beads that crowned her a princess with a distinction. I was more taken by Bintou’s angelic looks, mountainous teats, widened heaps, fair colored thighs and her walks that woke me up in the deepest dreams, only to find out each time that it was just a dream. Zavier was a ‘bandit’, as every one in the village called him then, so he knew what ‘good’ and ‘bad’ girls were, and was the sexy fellow who often smack girls on their buttocks. Lilboy was another character who wasn’t much in for body forms, but jewelry wears means everything to him. On both of Bintou’s hands, and neck were echoing bangles, beads and shells, special made wear from the lawbeh clan of the Senegambian region. That was all Lilboy liked, and I often heard him saying “if we should share Bintou’s beauty, all I need is the wears on the neck and the hands.”

Jabou Baldeh, another homie was a clever girl. She couldn’t be a first choice in a grouping just because of her large teats all over her chest. She was also the kind that was with energy, as such admired for her intelligence, but could not be cuddled on bed easily, as Zavier always jokingly said. She was also the warrior that takes no nonsense from any of the boys.

Other girls and boys of the village, notably Fmatta, Ndeymatta, Munndow, Lboy, Hansboy, Oga and their group were often described as the spoiled kids, as they weren’t 18, but we often treated them fairly by allowing them makeup our group numbers. Often they were nuisance and feared, as they narrate back to the parents whatever they witnessed, and often put us in trouble. They hardly noticed the real game underground, and mostly distracted by the nyareh fun game, which we always longed for.

It was also a common treatment then, when you like a girl you have to do something to win her admiration. Lilboy’s dad owns a horse cart, and every weekend he [Lilboy] and his brother went to the bush to get firewood for their mum. It was easy for him to drop two bundles of firewood at Bintou’s home mostly even as a surprise gift. Zavier wasn’t good at anything other than his filthy mouthing, and love jokes that would attract any girl to be his friend. Sorri, the little son of the village gainako (herdsman) often bluff of the milk of this one cow called ‘wellah’/sweet from their herd of cattle, and openly declared that half of wellah’s milk produce must be for Bintou. It was honestly the kind of milk that wasn’t for non-Fulas, and I often hear Bintou’s mum say “Jaboujabou wellih”, in a tone of broken pular that means sweetened reddish-white milk. I am the son of a woman merchant, who often sells her goods around, and in my own little way entertained Bintou’s family with larger measurements, and even gave extras (bunyah). I was also in the same class with Bintou, and long since mastered my basic mathematics from the process of selling garden produce, and always assisted Bintou in homework. It is obvious from the stakes that Wellah’s produce was the hottest agenda.

On this beautiful sunny Saturday, it was obvious of a moony night later on. It was a day for hide and see.

To be continued… lets see the race ending.
