Tax revenue as percentage of GDP would help you to compare taxation by countries.

Halifa Salah: PDOIS is however realistic. It is fully aware that the Gambian voters are yet to reach a level of political consciousness that they rely on to vote on the basis of Principles, policies and programmes and practices. |

Thanks Turk, I knew you were the man (sorry person, got to be P.C. these days )to get league tables on just about everything,I won't ask your source as a good investigator would never reveal it anyway, A little surprising that England (part of the UK!) comes 18th from the top Denmark being in the lead ,you are winning Momodou ,why is it though that us Brits complain constantly about being taxed so much and that there is hardly a whisper from peoples of other countries, could it be that those other countries get value for their taxation ? sorry here I go again I hate politics |

Toubab, the value for the taxation has been reduced gradually in Denmark specially with the right wing coalition in power the last ten years. Apart from the high tax, we are paying 25% VAT on every thing we buy. |

Yes, Scandic countries report greater satisfaction with public services so figure they are getting value for money. We Brits probably complain because we are paying for dirty hospitals, chaotic public transport and lining the pockets of greedy, corrupt politicians and feckless bankers.
Even if you hate politics, please do register (by May 16th) to vote in the European elections on June 4th. Every used vote might stop the BNP. |

There's a certain irony about UKIP MEPs though. What will they do? Refuse to go to Brussels? Become fifth columnists? Plot to do a Guy Fawkes on the European Parliament?
I don't think I'm being particularly cynical. I think that's a fairly accurate picture of the UK today. |

Just look at the child poverty stats Denmark,Sweden,Finland etc have the lowest rates of poverty, have equality in the work place have affordable quality childcare, healthy children, gaining educational attainment etc etc The look at the UK 24 out of 29 European countries,(just above Romania, Bulgaria,Latvia, Lithuania and Malta) the gender divide widening, poor quality unaffordable childcare high rates of social exclusion etc etc. The problem with the UK is simply attitude, our Government leads from the top down the sucessful Countries lead from the bottom up. |
