Thanks Momodou. It is getting worked on. Here is the intended humor. It is all about the big boy (swine). I think others fondly say "nice boy."

Swine Flu
The market for the pigs (swine) is seriously affected by the emergence of the swine flu. Here is the discussion between two -a restaurant man (RM) and his client (CM).
CM: Good Morning!
RM: Morning, sir!
CM: I am hungry. I just stopped by to get some food to eat.
RM: Here is a menu. Can I get you the usual pork ribs or the beef stake? Our chickens are also served with special swine blood sauce.
CM: Not today. Something wrong with that one these days.
RM: Hmmm..(silence) What's that?
CM: Any news in your area? The Swine flu is all over. If you are cooking the pork ribs with that grill of yours, please tell me now?
RM: I watch CNN always. My favorite are Cooper 360, Larry King, John King and Wolf.
CM: No, I don't mean politics. My favorite is Dr. Sanjay Gupta. That is the man. If you live, you must stay healthy. That's why you must watch Gupta's time on CNN.
RM: Oh, you mean him? Yes, Sanjay is a handsome man but he is too much into other things.
CM: You should put your CNN channel on because he is on 60 minutes.
RM: What for?
CM: You should because you asked to serve me pork in your restaurant.
RM: Hmmm... (Silence again)
CM: I am only here to order bread...not even chicken or beef, because the beef causes "mad cow" disease; the Chicken causes "Chicken pox" and the pork causes "Swine flue."
RM: Oh, no! You are wrong. These foods are tested before they are brought to this restaurant. Stop driving my clients away.
CM: Ok, bye!

2bab,
Thanks. What are your thoughts on this pandemic? It is getting very worrying. I saw an article yesterday that motivated this little piece. In it, some one warned Africans on their travels. The funny part, the disease is not yet in Africa.
I am glad you like it. Have a great mother's day with your entire family.

Guys, Join in the campaign!!
quote: http:///www.thepoint.gm
The ECOWAS Commission has urged Member States to take appropriate measures to enable them respond to the prevailing health crisis arising from the Swine Influenza A/H1N1 viral attack that has been reported in some other parts of the world.
The Commission advises citizens of the region and Member States to be on alert and undertake various preventive measures. Among them are:
1. That the sub-regional Epi-surveillance and Laboratory networks be put on alert and ensure the implementation of the ECOWAS Mechanism of Prevention and Control of Avian Influenza and other Transboundary Diseases (TADs) to keep swine influenza at bay in the ECOWAS sub-region;
2. That all relevant agencies at the national units are advised to remain vigilant and report any suspected cases of swine influenza, while encouraging farmers to exhibit high levels of animal husbandary practices and proper nutrition on their farms;
3. Member States are advised to activate their Pandemic Preparedness Plan and contact the World Food Programme Regional Office and WHO for assistance where necessary;
4. It is prudent people to delay international travels which are not necessary and those developing symptoms following international travels should seek medical attention in line with guidance from medical authorities;
5. That citizens should ensure high levels of personal hygiene for themselves and their families. Individuals are also advised to wash hands thoroughly with antiseptics, soap and water on regular basis and should seek medical attention if they develop any symptoms of influenza-like illness such as frequent sneezing, cold, flu, headaches etc;
6. Individuals are advised to have in their possession face-masks especially when going into public places;
7. Member States are advised to avoid restrictions of regular travels or closure of borders; and
8. Non-essential travel to areas with reported cases of infection should be avoided. Citizens are encouraged to report any suspected cases to the nearest medical centre for prompt action.
The ECOWAS Commission wishes to reiterate its commitment to the development of the livestock sub-sector in the sub-region but observes that the influenza event underscores the crucial importance of maintaining quality veterinary services capable of detecting relevant emerging and re-emerging pathogens that have potential public health impact. Veterinarians are advised to ensure the continued development of good governance in veterinary service delivery in compliance with international standards.
The President of the ECOWAS Commission urges citizens to remain calm and continue to go about their normal businesses and exercise maximum vigilance during this period.

Thank you. Thoughts on the Pandemic,I read your reproducton from ECOWAS,all very sensible,at the moment the swine flu appears to be a mild strain except for Mexico where people have died (may they rest in Peace)The current problem appears to have been controlled ,maybe by the drugs that many western countries have stockpiled by good planning,there is a theory that the virus may mutate when the flu season starts in the winter time and that it may be much stronger and have devestating effects because the stockpiled drugs MAY not be effective agains the new strain. The present outbreak is mild in countries other than Mexico this mildness gives authorities a chance to try out their containment methods and ways of treating and tracing people who have been exposed . WHEN (as those who know about such things say) a Pandemic arrives all information that has been gathered will be very useful,remember there was SARS and bird flu so these methods have been tried before so pig flu has been a final "test" case before a much more serious Pandemic hits the globe. ECOWAS countries are in different cicumstances for several reasons,No drugs stockpiled,poor communications (Gambia excepted!) lack of highly trained virologists to work on vaccines,and for a host of other reasons so any Pandemic in Africa MAY WELL have a VASTLY Different outcome WHEN the next serious Pandemic hits the globe,MAYBE resulting in many deaths.
PS. I find myself wondering,very strange timing here,why? the world was in a severe financial meltdown the Banks were bust ,then up popped the Pandemic, no more news of financial meltdown just news of the spread of swine flu which has turned out to be mild in cases other than Mexico,Conspiricy theory? well you never know. |
