Ive not heard that Ghanas being pushed as a new tourist destination, however on my recent visit I was aware of more Eastern Europeans in Kumasi. Still maybe the cost of direct flights will come down on a selfish note, so I don't have to travel half way round Europe to get there.

Lots of people/organisations have planned or planning to more their projects to Ghana but this was brought up in an earlier post.

Its very different to Gambia in terms of infrastructure and attitude to bussiness etc and definitely in the education sector the University is ran more efficient and expectations have to be met, even at the lower end theres a real recent push to bring the private sectors and state sectors together something that still far removed in Gambia.
If I was going to compare Gambia to another holiday destination would have said Goa, this has become a popular alternative.

The Ashanti village has always attracted tourist especially from the US and theres an US expat community though Ive never been aware of a UK one lots of the people from the UK have business in the business district I noticed a influx of gentlemens clubs spring up.

You certainly get more for your cedi than you do for dalais the most ridiculous thing I heard in Gambia and not just once, was that the restaurants in the strip had increased their prices because business was so bad

Cape Verde is targeted at a different type of cliental and unfortunately, I think that many new visitors will stay in the hotels and on the private beaches.

With now Thompson/First choice pulling out of Gambia the choice is limited, Span air of cottoned onto the UK market cashing in and their prices are on the rise especially in school holidays which as always been a cheaper option.

what do you mean? why have they stopped?

Theyve dropped a few places though in fairness its more flights than a whole packages!!!!
Their response is it isnt a viable option???

I think its a lot to do with the political climate a hell of a lot of group bookings (schools, colleges and Universities) used FC rather than the others, with those instiutions looking else where maybe they got out before they got stung.
For us in the Uk we have flythomascook, or monarch. GE are leasing various airlines as well other than that theres the option of flying indirect ie Spain

has very good information. Before I give you personal advice.

When are you going? How long do you want to stay? Like to be prisoned in luxury hotels, or, like me, be around with the locals? Have you been to Turkey before?

We were thinking of April, one week. I like to have a base of somewhat luxury but also don't mind going local, but the OH has no tolerance for any kind of hassle and gets a bit southern Italian about it so not somewhere where they pester you to come into bars or on the street etc (like Goa for eg, which someone mentioned earlier. Oh the UNENDURABLE hassle there). I've never been to Turkey, nor has he, but since posting last time I realised that Turkey is cold in April....so we won't be going then. Probably just go to the Canaries. Some time though, definitely. I hear Icmeler is a quiet-ish sort of place but we have all heard of Bar Street (!! and definitely not a place like that.

Turkey is a big country. And we have many options.

I can't help you with the weather but if you go april, you should go Antalya, Alanya while it will not very hot but you can still enjoy the hot spring day. And you can find very luxuries hotels with local scene.

Enjoy the cannaries.

diaspora! Too many Chiefs and Very Few Indians.

Halifa Salah: PDOIS is however realistic. It is fully aware that the Gambian voters are yet to reach a level of political consciousness that they rely on to vote on the basis of Principles, policies and programmes and practices.

Right, turk, but don't forget PAMUKKALE! Formby, this is one of the most beautiful and interesting places you can find on this planet. The white natural terraces are amazing, and the thermal spa, with ancient Roman columns lying in the sparkling water, is really delightful. Efes (Ephesus) is not far away, there you find tons of Greek & Roman excavations. Gorgeous landscapes, a rich culture, friendly people, delicious and healthy food, beautiful (yet mostly too touristic) beaches - Turkey is a treasure.

for those who not given up on Gambia, me included, try icelolly for last minute deals, not sure what is happening with teletext but sometimes have last minute deals.
If thomascook pull out for 09/10 season, how many seats is that, how many will be lost. One flight =250 seats, how many flights a week, maybe 3, 3 x 250 = to 750 people per week not coming to Gambia!!, you do the maths, this is a rough guesstimate.
Do other have any other figures.
