fee_sweetie, i followed both stories, first the main story and then the comment. not sure how many peopel read the first story
my thouhgts/remarks one, when the man in question was asked for some information he gaveit, he was with the girls in question openly, no sneaking behind the bushes etc, out in the open. two when he was challenged about the Girls She produceD a id CARD, THREE, WHEN CHALLENGED ABUT THE CARD, HE CALLED HIS policeman friend WHO HELPED HIM TO ARRANGE THE ID CARDS in the first place. FOUR, the parents of the girls knew of the arrangement,
SO LETS BE CLEAR HERE, IT IS NOT ACCEPTABE FOR THIS TO HAPPEN, but at what stage do you stop it. AND IF MONEY IS BEING PAID, THEN LET THE FAMILY TAKE RESPONSIBLIITY FOR THEIR CHILDREN.
BECAUSE I HAVE HEARD OF MANY A GAMBIAN GIRL, 10 years upwards being married to men over 50. get my drift.
YOU DONT LIKE THIS TOURIST, ARREST THEM, AND THROW THEM OUT OF THE COUNTRY, DO NOT TOLERATE IT IF YOU DO NOTE LIKE IT, BUT REMEMBER THE PARANTS ARE TAKING MONEY FOR THIS, so what is their part in this story.
THE FIGURES SHOULD POINT IN OTHER DIRECTIONS

okay point taken, but she will be judge on this action, because she is guilty it is on her hands. NO MONEY WAS INVOLVED
the other case has guilt on a lot of peoples hands not just the Man involved. who will take this man to court NOBODY, money changed hands. spot the difference

I didnt consider the money question ,all I saw were very bad things being done by both men and women. |

toubab1020, i can print a whole page of stories, but they cannot be measured side by side, each one has to judge on its merits. the story in gambia made the news because it was a tourist, but i bet away from the beaten track there is an older person with a younger person, in the name of marriage. also there are some stories i could provide where girls age 10 and 12 in saudi arabia have been given in marriage to pay off the families debts, what do you say to that |

I have no arguement with what you say I am sure that you are completly correct, the answer that you would be given if you made enquiry of the families concerned would be either, "its a matter of culture" or "we have to protect the family honour" the "forced marriage" of a young girl to an old man is not right in my opinion but in the opinion of others it may be seen as a process of last resort and in their minds justified,in other words sacrifice one girl to save the whole family.Would a young girl be happy with such an arrangement ? The fact that a girl in such circumstances may well be better off more food to eat, a chance to further her education, good clothes to wear etc.On the other side the husband may not be a good man and her life would be worse,in this case the fact that the husband is a tourist probably means that he has money, which he undoubtedly has as he has "bought" the girl . |
