I understand this so well.
I have had Gambian people ask me for a model of mobile that is better than my own...they want new clothes for Tobaski when I wear an old dress for Christmas.
Part of my going to Gambia was about a rejection of materialism.....looking for a meaning in life beyond things.....
After all, the money I freely gave in Gambia I could of spent on new furniture, designer clothes and new mobiles......for myself!
I have decided to only give money to educate people...to support the families to keep the children in school.
It's difficult to decide what is worthwhile..... it is a cultural value judgement.
