The Black Police Association yesterday urged a recruitment boycott of the Metropolitan Police claiming that, despite its new leadership, the force was marked by "a hostile atmosphere where racism is allowed to spread”.
I think so very special and strong black people need to step forward and take on the job. It is very tough for them as individuals. But that is the way an insitution will change. Slowly over time with the impact of good individuals.
Noone should feel they have to avoid a profession because of racism. It is shocking.
Not so long ago it was women...... limited by their gender. I remember at school having a battle to do physics...the teacher thought girls were more suited to biology! That made me all the more determined. A class of around 35 and only 3 girls!!! My dad backed me all the way!
Sometimes these battles have to be taken on. I would love to see ethnic groups queueing up to join the police force and making a success of it. That might shut the racists up!!
Theres a programme on now called the The Secret Policeman Returns its a revisit to an orignal undercover investigation into racisim in the police force to see if things have changed.
Five years ago, the BBC screened the controversial documentary The Secret Policeman, which revealed racism amongst police recruits in Manchester.
Please note the video link below uses racist and abusive language. This is the original investigation. Its an hour long.
